Script for Dilaudid/hydromorphone for overseas (USA–>Europe)

I am on 8mg of dilaudid, 3 times a day for chronic back problems and I live in the USA. I have been taking these meds for a very long time, I tried many pain killers, but dilaudid is the only one that doesn't give me nasty side effects or get me sick.

My question is this. I might be moving from the USA to Greece, and in Greece....there is NO WAY to get a script for dilaudid. I did some research and the Greek embassy told me to purchase extra medication and to bring it with me. I get 90 pills a month, how the hell does one go about purchasing extra medication? My primary MD didn't know, my insurance company doesn't have a clue, and with all these new laws about schedule II substances in NJ, I'm not sure how to go about doing this?

I don't want to break the law, I just want to continue leading my normal life with my medication. I fear that if I move to Greece, I will go through massive withdrawal and won't be able to get my meds, causing my chronic back pain to act up again. The Greek embassy said to have the prescription and a letter from my US embassy saying I can take this medication. But how the f*ck do I get it in bulk? Is it even possible? I show up a day early for my refill at my pharmacy and they give me hell.

If I can't get my meds out there, I may have to reconsider my move. I refuse complex surgery so I am sticking with the meds. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I'm going to move this to the European regional forum, you may be able to find some more location-specific answers there. I'm not even sure if hydromorphone/Dilaudid is available in Greece (hopefully somebody does know and can help you out). Good luck.

Once I had to get a ton of meds for an adventure, and I got a 6 month supply, I went to my doc and he told the pharmacy. However, it was not a script for a narcotic. I think you're just shit out of luck. You're going to need to experiment with pain meds that you can get in Greece.

This is the stupid problem with these narcotic laws. People have the right to get pain medication when and where they need to. There will always be addicts, that's not reason enough to keep these meds from patients. I honestly believe opiates should be OTC. At least hydro

Sorry to hear about your situation mate, I guess one of the worst aspects about opiate use is what I call geographical slavery, if you can't go without your medication then I guess you should probably reconsider your move.

Do weaker opiates take care of at least enough of the pain for you to be able to lead a normal life? If your problem is bad enough you could maybe get a script for something like codeine or perhaps even morphine if you're lucky in Greece.

Been to Greece many times....NO WAY to get any kind of narcotic, script or not. I'm thinking maybe find a way to have scripts filled here in the US and send to me in Greece? But I don't think my doctor will do that, especially for sched II meds. Shit man....I don't know what to do. I can't see a pharmacy or doc just handing me over 6 months worth of narcotics. People have advised me to use H, hell no....I just want my meds and to live my normal life. I know H isn't all that far away from dillies, but I just can't do that....know too many people who have died. And I don't even know what the customs are like over there....if I can have stuff shipped from the US to Greece. I don't want to get into trouble. I'm Greek....and I can't believe these stupid fuckn Greek laws.

Move and deal with chronic pain.....or stay, and find another career. Having to make this decision based on if I can get my medicine is lunacy. I'm in awe....

No codeine or morphine of any sort, against the law....strongest thing I can get is Tramadal. And it's BS. Does nothing. I'm fucked! Maybe consider the H use...but I know nothing about it, much less where to get it. I know it's abundant there...but I don't know any junkies.

Considering the situation in Greece and how desperate people are over there right now I would suggest staying away from Greece. I love Greece though, beautiful country. Best of luck.

It's a messed up situation for sure, drug laws need to change globally, it's a shame.

Drugs are cheap and plentiful in Greece but really, it's crazy that you'd need to rely on the black market for a legitimate health issue, seriously fucked up.

You probably need to sit down and evaluate whether the financial incetive of this career move is really worth the consuequences on your ability to live life due to pain

My family and routs are from there, and work is there waiting for me. But I have some serious chronic back problems, without my meds...I'm a useless puppet. I've come off the meds before, and the pain came right back. This really isn't fair...I'm not a rec user, I'm someone that needs medication to live normally. WTF is wrong with that??? I wonder if bordering countries have the same laws...maybe I could travel and score what I need in a neighborhood country.

Midnight Express...nuff said.

I'd rather take my chances sourcing heroin on the black market in Greece than risk smuggling stuff through the Turkish border.

I don't believe they're more lax in Turkey anyway.

Even if you can get a script its been reported that pharmacies are running low on all sorts of medivation all the time and running out as the government aren't paying them. Even with private health insurance things are fucked, I watched a report and children on cancer wards were not getting their meds.

Sorry I don't have links but it was a few months ago on Newsnight.

I would not be caught dead in Turkey...I was thinking someplace more like Italy (ferry), Albania or Bulgaria. I picked up meds in Holland before, but a 2 week supply cost me over 100 euro. I wouldn't mind taking a flight every couple months to restock, but again...I don't know if I can do that as the doctor I saw there only gave me a one month supply. This is really BS. I kinda have to go to Greece....I got kids with mouths to feed. Some of my close friends say to score some H and be very careful with it....but I am scared shitless of that stuff. I've seen the junkies there....and I don't want to turn into one of them. ARGH!!!!!

And I don't know how reliable those on line stores are....

Italy not a chance, I live there and it's one of the most restrictive places when it comes to opiate prescriptions.

Albania you can probably bribe a pharmacists

If they carry them in Italy, I'll try. I got a medical file one inch thick, MRIs, etc. But if it's like Greece where they simply don't import opiates into Italy...than you are right, no chance. Is there a site source where I can find out more info on how tolerant countries are with opiates? UK has them, and extended release that I don't like...but it's better than nothing. Still....mad expensive. Plus the risk of traveling, etc. I can always put my meds in my legit prescription bottles. Damn it...why does this have to be such a pain in the ass. Midas well grow my own poppy field out there.

Having only broken my arm in Italy being my experience of Italian hospitals I was shocked by the lack of opiate prescribing opiates, I had no morphine for my broken arm for 3 hours even during it being x rayed. Only got some before the re set it, it was obviously broken as it was nearly poking through the skin. Then I got none afterwards not even codeine. I had to fly back to the UK with no pain relief apart from paracetamol and ibuprofen.

Not cool.

This exactly

For me if I was very unlikely to be able to be opiate script in a country I honestly would not move there. Although I used to put up with my back pain now I'm on codeine and pregabalin no way would I go back to having none. Not a fucking chance.

That might sound over the top but for me its not, its a quality of of life issue.

I have a lot to think over. Maybe I can convince my doc here in the US to have a relative come by every month and pick up my prescription, get if filled, and have it FedEx it to me? Would that be legal? I have a prescription. Customs form ask to list every single item to the last detail. I could very well put the meds in a different bottle...but someone told me sending meds, even OTC meds overseas is a no no. Can anyone share some light on this? Thanks fellas.

I would phone up the Greek embassy or Consulate, I'm not being rude to anybody on here but with something as important as this I would find out what official policy is, not go by what someone on here says, even if they do have good links. That is HR.

I didn't know countries accepted foreign prescriptions.

Even so I would perhaps even try to speaking to a Greek Dr, I would be checking the finest detail if I was moving to a new country!

Hope you get sorted?

How long until you go.

Keep in mind that with H... nobody said you had to inject it. Taking it intranasally (just mix it into an afrin nose spray bottle) is non-obvious and just as effective as dilaudid. Sucks that you might have to go that route but if you are at that far of a loss that is all I can say
