Jobseeker's Allowance Megathread ver. The Jeremy Kyle Fan Club

It's been a while since I signed on but I've never been asked for bank statements or proof of balance / savings / loans etc.

For the people who can't get a job and are getting fucked about on benefits why not teach yourself new skills whilst unemployed? You can then use those skills to get a new job or start making your own money online.

Sitting about on your arse waiting for someone else to hand you a job in the current economy seems like a fools move.

Council tax benefits and Housing benefits n stuff ALWAYS ask for your last 6 months statements now.

I'm not unemployed but I know folks who are. You've got to be fairly astute about online money making and how to manage the process ... lots of people really still do only know basic pc skills.

Taking on whatever courses you can get re IT for free is a good idea, but I think expecting folks to be savvy about online money making is pushing it. Not that it isn't easy when you know how, but a lot of it goes over yer average pc users head. plus, a lot of people are only really online via their phones rather than laptops and pcs nowadays too

Like I say you LEARN. Everything you ever need to know about everything and anything is available online for free.

Everyone has skills or knowledge that other people don't have and want. You can make money from those skills and knowledge.

Two years ago I'd never set up or ran a website / blog in my life, never used an autoresponder (didn't even know what one was), did email marketing, had no idea what affiliate marketing was, had never created an info product / ebook, didn't know what SEO, conversion optimization or split testing was (had never heard the terms), copywriting I would have thought meant copying someones else writing etc etc etc...I didn't have a clue.

I do now because I taught myself.

yeah it seems you have to be very pro-active. I fuckin hate that word, especially as it was often used against me at work. I started to get the hang of after a while though. Care to elaborate any on your online money making schemes ? I've heard about your Adult Work pictures collection. That could be quite a good one, you'd have to be carefull not to infringe anyones copyright though i expect.

Anyone know anything about NICs?

I registered as self employed about 3 years ago.. worked for about 8 months and got a bill for national insurance contributions through.. i called em up and worked out i hadn't earned enough to be billed anything and was told to fill out a form.. I didn't bother.. Every now and again I get a letter through with the amount climbing higher.. Got one the other day for £350.. I have hardly worked in between that job and the one i started last month so does anyone know if it's too late for me to finally fill out that form and get it reduced to £0..

I notice on each letter the wording makes it look like you can only do the form for the current tax year :\

I've packed in 'money making schemes' and focused on actually building valuable websites / online businesses. Haven't looked at Adult Work in about a year. Don't think it can be done anymore tbh they got really strict.

There's 101 ways to make money online - freelance writing, web design, programming, logo design, affiliate marketing, selling on ebay or amazon, arbitrage (selling on other peoples work for higher price), selling ebooks, selling info products, email marketing, copywriting, conversion optimization etc etc etc.

I know all this. And congrats for managing it, seriously <3

But there's a huge group of people who struggle to deal with just everyday basics, y'know? The system is fucking hard to deal with a lot of the time, and the personal circumstances of a whole load of people reduces the capacity for this kind of innovation, however easy it may seem. Some people's basic hardships become so overwhelming to them in ways that most cannot understand

Id love to make money as a freelance writer. I couldnt be any worse than the writers they have for the Daily Mail. It just getting your foot in the door isnt it. Like Frank McCourt said i one of his autobigraphies "dont look for reasons why things cant be done, look for ways they can be done." For him that meant working a 100 hours a week or something in order to fulfill his ambitions, and drag himself out of the dire poverty he grew up in.

Easier said than done, ofcourse, but Id like to kind of reprogram my subcosncious mind into this kind of thinking. I am getting there, but still have a long way to go.

drugbuddie I think you're looking at this in the wrong way. To be a freelance writer you don't have to be employed by a national newspaper. There are about 1 zillion lazy fucks / non native English speakers / dyslexics / retards out there right this second with websites who need content and can't be arsed / are unable to write it themselves...they are paying other people to do it.

Most of the guys on the freelance sites (Odesk, Feelancer, ELance etc) bidding for writing jobs are surprisingly non native English writers working for peanuts. They are shit. Can't string a sentence together if their life depended on it.

Position yourself as a native English writer who can write better than anyone from India / Phils / wherever and guarantee quality and you'll get jobs.

I find writing boring but decided to give it a bash to see how much money I could make. I joined ODesk and applied for less than 10 jobs. Within 24hrs had landed 2 gigs for $100 each on a Friday afternoon.

Stupidly I went out that night and was on the piss till Monday morning so by the time I got back online both jobs had been cancelled because I went AWOL and didn't get back to them but it was VERY easy to land those gigs.

What have you got to lose? It's free to join and bid on gigs.

Nice one. I'd never heard of this before. I'll check it out later... then do fuck all with it.

Not that im condoning crime, but if you sanction someone with no money, the usual sanction seems to be 4 - 13 weeks, how the hell are these people supposed to survive ! ? People that tend to get sanctioned are living slightly chaotic lives IME, they can afford it least of all. They need extra help, not punishments. It really is hitting the worst off the hardest. Ive had one warning for being late for signing on. Not sure if I'll get sanctioned if this happens again.

I wouldn't risk being late again for an appt MDB if you can help it mate as you wouldn't be the first person to receive a sanction for being late for an appointment.
Best not to give them the opportunity.

Now that's the attitude you need! ;)

I hate writing articles and blog posts especially on shit I know nothing about for other people so it was never going to work out for me anyway but if you can string a sentence together and don't mind writing about a load of shit that doesn't interest you can definitely make some money from it.

You'll might have to start out taking some low paying jobs to get feedback and reviews but you can quickly pick up some better paying work.

There are hundreds of different job types on ODesk and Elance etc. I guarantee anyone who's ever had a job before or even just used the internet can find something they can do. Jobs range from typing documents to making phone calls to internet research to writing to designing and loads of other random stuff.

Public believes 41% of social security spending goes on unemployment benefits. DWP says 3%.
Illustrates what a great job the government has done on Joe Public by blaming all the countries woes on the unemployed.

Certainly sounds like something that's worth looking into. Once I get sorted with laptop & broadband I shall give those sites a look as a bit of extra cash, even the odd £20 here & there would be a great help.

We should have a whole post dedicated to those misconceptions max, because theyre wild as fuck. The public perception and knowledge about the DLA and JSA £amounts are out by a gargantuan scale. that's half the problem, and why people support the 'austerity' moves because the tories are abusing those misperceptions.

The money going on DLA and JSA is fucking miniscule in reality to the attention it gets (and the money spent on schemes to reduce the fraud associated with it too .... erm ... lets look at tax avoidance and compare the values, you cretinous cunts)
