DMT and migraine

I woke up this morning with a horrible migraine setting in. I knew that I would be vomiting within an hour and it would last at least a day. So I grabbed my bong and took a moderate hit of DMT.

Within seconds my migraine had gone. There was a brief spell of mild nausea lasting less than a minute after the trip ended and now I'm 100% recovered.

Yay for DMT!

do you suffer "aura"? ... or were you already in pain?

Psyches def help migraine!

I never have any aura. My attacks always start with me waking up in pain.

Actually according to my doctor, what I suffer from isn't actually migraine because the pain is symetrical. However it is or isn't diagnosed though, it doesnt stop it crippling me for 24-48 hours.

sure... I just understand that a migraine is identified by an aura, & that, according to doctors, is you don't have aura, you don't have migraine! It sometime affects the outcome if a person medicates themselves during the aura phase or afterwards, that's the only reason I asked.

You probably have Cluster Headaches, which are as bad if not worse than a migraine. Many people treat themselves against Cluster Headaches using Psilocybin mushrooms periodically through the year to ward off the debilitating headaches. A case was made famous by Drugs Inc's episode on Psychedelics. Please correct me if I'm wrong, it may have been some other Drugs documentary series.

Migraines don't always involve an aura, only about 30% of sufferers report them. They do apparently only occur on one side of the head though which makes mine not-migraines.

I don't think they're cluster headaches. They are bad but I couldn't describe them as the worst pain imaginable.

Whatever they are, DMT zaps them.

I get migraines with aura once in a while (luckily not very often!). I will have to try this the next time I have one.

What is the aura like? Does it compare to a psychedelic experience in any way?

nah, it's more like a sun glare in z shapes that ripple like heat haze across my vision. The aura varies from person to person. Treatment often needs to start before the aura turns into a headache.

I've been suffering from seriously bad migraines since I was a child. Sometime I get the aura in my field of vision (maybe 3 times a year) the rest of the time my usual headaches seem more like cluster headaches. The aura looks like when you look at a light bulb or bright light and then look away and you have that residual blob of color - that's exactly what it looks like. It starts in my peripheral vision and that's when I know I'll have a really bad headache in 30-60mins. The aura slowley moves across my field of vision until it's difficult to see clearly. Mushrooms and LSD absolutley decreased their frequency when I was a teenager.
And my old migraine medication which was the only one that worked wonders was Cafergot (Ergot &Caffine). Interestingly, since I've begun exploring research Tryptamines I've noticed the same massive relief from headaches.
Phenethylamines on the other hand tend to give me a headache and I seem to usually have to take an Advil at some point during the trip.

Absolutley, if I can down my anti migraine pill cocktail at the onset of the aura the headache will most certainly not manifest. If I don't take it by the time the headache comes on I'm usually crouching in the dark puking my guts out. Very interestingly, almost every time after I vomit my headache instantly goes away (usually this is several minutes of intense vomiting and reching). And every single time after I vomit and the headache suddenly stops I have this strange sense of euphoria for about 30-60 mins before going back to baseline. I pretty much assumed it's residual endorphins in my system from going from a state of extreme pain to normal almost instantly.

Perfectly reasonable assumption.

It's exactly the same for me by the way, or was when I suffered regular migraines. Each time I vomitted, it would bring temporary relief from the torturous pain.

I wouldn't be surprised, LSD and psilocin have been shown to help massively with migraines, i believe they're studying a variant of LSD at harvard with respect to migraine treatment. Considering the fact that they are all tryptamines, it could be that DMT is another chemical that is useful! i used to get migraines (with an aura) but have not experienced one in a while, LSD is definitely beneficial.

Ive been getting migraines for like 20 some years, almost always with slight aura or visual disturb, and always on the left side behind my eye. Had them for days, gone to the er got shot full or narcs....with all the new stuff im reading about tryptamines and migraine it makes me want to stock up on dmt even tho i dont like psychs all that much, and just do enough to take the pain away....when i get a bad one i feel like eating my 45 sometimes the pain is so insanely crippling. Its al.ost like tripping in itself...i see fracticals, flying numbers....but it also feels like a drill going in your brain trying to pop your eye out. Since i am having trouble finding al lad (seems like everyone is sold out) it sucks bc i really really wanted to expiriment with that since ive heard about great results. Maybe ill try a little dmt and keep it on hand for extreme cases.

Thats great to hear...i dont like having to take triptans for my migraines since they have horrible cardiac risks. I wouldnt mind a little visual action and trip if it stops the pain and puking.

I've been using serotonergic psychedelics to treat migraines (among other reasons) for about 6 years now. I've noticed that they will return in a less intense form 2-6 months after a trip, but I can honestly say I have not had a migraine as severe as the ones I suffered before using psychedelics. I used imitrex before ever taking psychedelics, but I found it didn't have much effect at all.
I'm glad others are finding relief, and am curious if anyone else has had a significant depreciation of pain from migraines after using psychedelics.

Im interested as well. Id love it if there was some psych u could take, trip for a few hours and never ever get a migraine again. You know big pharma wouldnt want that getting out bc they make tons of money from migraine meds as it is. Before i had healthinsurance if i had to pay out of pocket some of those triptans were like 20 a fucking pill. Thats like pouring acid in a wound. Youre already in a shitload of pain and then you have to pay twenty bucks for a pill that might not even work. Such a scam.
