Respect to the person - I just can't ever recall a post from them before ? Nice one - Wearing Franky says relax t shirt n all that ;)

You are so old I knew you would get that ;)

You were talking directly to me - I'm in my 40's - I didn't have to 'get' it?

So am I. I was never one to enjoy vicks or light show either.

Hey OTW. You have kids. One day one of them might get addicted irregardless of their parenting. All it takes is a predisposition, or a bad friend. Maybe even a joint. Weed is indeed a gateway drug. They can have the best mommy and daddy ever with all the money in the world and still fall into a habit. That scares you.

Face your fears mate instead of projecting. It's out of your control. Otherwise one day you might bite your words while your consoling your little daughter as she's rocking back and forth in withdrawal, wishing she could die, and you're helpless to help her.

Fact is, it's a disease which is out of all of our hands. If you have kids, the best you can hope for is to be their friend. So if god forbid one day they might start squirting shit up their arms, they'll be honest with you, and you can get them help.

Cheap shots in a closed thread is pretty lame if I don't get a right of reply.

I have no fears my kids will become addicts for the simple reason that I believe HR starts before they develop a habit. I am very open with my kids, and they feel comfortable enough to come to me with any question. I am also experienced enough in this scene to give them proper guidance and advice. One of the most important lessons I try to instil in them is strength against peer pressure. Not just saying no, but standing up for your principles and beliefs. I don't care if my opinions fly in that face of the majority here. I have plenty of friends who are alive because I do care and don't pander to their selfishness.

By the time you jump from recreational use to being dependant then the battle is half lost. I'm sorry that this place seems to attract the poor souls who have made this jump. HR is no longer about staying safe, it is then about staying alive. I think sucking the fun out of drug use is also sad. I have said it countless times that if the family of many BLers were privy to the type of information we are they would no doubt do more to help. I make no apologies for treading on peoples toes. If you are going to use this place as a blog then don't expect every person to agree with your lifestyle choices. I don't care if you disagree with how I live my life, once again it comes down to being comfortable in who you are and not worried about your peers. If you truly believe that your own lifestyle is healthy then why worry what one person out of 6 billion on this planet thinks? If I strike a raw nerve then that is hardly my fault.

I have always been more of a dusty or sandy dance floor type, reaching for the lanterns rather than the lasers. Although some of the laser installations the doof crews around here set up in the bush are fucking sensational. Pity they only play psytrance, a proper trance night under the stars would go down a treat.

Semanatics - OK :D. So - when you take what you (if you have) learnt from a dance floor you would say what?

How can you stop your children having a habit if their recreational use is hidden from you ?

You have never been to a doof here have you? There are families with kids from 3months all the way through to 82 there. Drugs are not a secret, but neither is a mother's displeasure if you are an idiot in front of their children. I have learnt that the 10 yr old kid who can fire twirl and slack line like a professional no doubt knows how to roll a spliff. I have learnt that even the most connected drug dealer doesn't know you can test powders. I also know that being a hypocrite will cause you to lose face more quickly than being wrong.

I teach my kids certain rules to life, I can only hope that they listen I guess. They know three things you never do under the influence; drive, swim or fight. They know that there is no such thing as a free ride. If you play up, you have to still get up. They also know that I don't expect them to be the best, only that they try their best. Most importantly of all they know that no matter how much shit they get up to, I have done it better, bigger and badder in my youth and they have no excuses to waste their talent.

Your attitude to parenting is great. Honestly I think your kids will be fine and it's far better to be open, honest and connected to your children than the alternative.

However what, if anything, this has to do with your approach to adults who indulge in risky behaviours escapes me. It's good to treat children like would-be adults, but it is beyond inane to treat adults like children.
