Vyvanse Today Question

Hey all,

I've taken adhd medication on and off throughout the past few years. I recently got Vyvanse (50mg) last week. I have taken that and adderall in the past. Last Wednesday I began my prescription. I have taken it every other day and made sure I got some sleep in between doses. The last few time I took it I doubled it (100mg) because I wasn't feeling the effect. I know its not a good idea to do that but I did it anyway and the first time felt amazing. Today is the only day I took it in a row (100mg) with about 6hrs of sleep in between. I am 5'3" and 115lbs and I am not feeling the effect of vyvanse at all. I am extremely tired and have a mild headache. I can't concentrate on anything.
Any recommendations of things I can do to wake up and be able to concentrate? I feel 100mg is a large dose to be feeling so tired after only taking the medication for a few days. I have tried fish oils, protein shakes, caffeine... In the past i've experimented with alka seltzer/tums to enhance the absorption but it only enhanced it for a second but increased my anxiety a tremendous amount.
Is it okay to take Tylenol for this mild sleepy headache also? Oh please, some good advice would be greatly appreciated. Note, I will wait a week until I take it again but I'm asking is there anything I can do to help me *now*?

Thanks

You're developing a tolerance, especially since you're taking higher doses. Amphetamine tolerance grows very quickly. Take a day off (at least). Ideally, take a few days off and continue to take vitamins (like you said you're going to do). If you've already taken caffeine I wouldn't take any more. I find that mixing caffeine with amphetamines tends to increase the anxiety aspect of it while not really enhancing the amphetamine's effects. Of course, your reaction may vary (some people insist on mixing their amps with caffeine).

You can take Tylenol with Vyvanse/amphetamines. There's no risk of interaction.

Thanks for your quick reply neighborhoodthreat. I am definitely going to take a break from it. I find slowly drinking a protein shake throughout the day *somewhat* helps. Guess I just have to sit here and wait for another 10 hours until the feeling goes away.

Also, how unsafe is it to mix some alcohol for the comedown of stimulants ? I've done it before but really just don't know how unsafe it really is. Any thoughts? I'm about to have some wine right now i feel like s****

A few drinks on an amphetamine comedown can really help, but it comes with some risk. The main risk is developing an alcohol habit, where you drink everytime you take amps, I have had this happen before. The second risk is really just health related because amps dehydrate you and have some neurotoxicity, esp in high doses. Alcohol is also nuerotoxic and both alcohol and amphetamine can dehydrate you so be careful. But a couple glasses of wine and a few glasses of water with em, youu should be fine.

Thanks Hiltoniano. Also, have you heard of the supplement GABA CALM? I'm wondering if this would help a bit with the comedown or if it would interfere negatively ....

I had a very similar experience with Vyvanse. I had also been on Adderall before, but had not taken any stimulant ADD treatments months before I went on Vyvanse.

The first dose was great and very effective. My next dose, the next day, (as well as every subsequent dose for a month) was completely ineffective and gave me a frozen and slowed-down feeling. I never raised the dose or deviated from the dosing schedule.

The experience left me feeling that Vyvanse is garbage. I know that it is famous for being idiosyncratic and unpredictable. However, "Everyone is different," and also my ADD is virtually self-diagnosed.

Thanks for the reply's. My night ended up pretty rough. I tried drinking a few sips of wine to calm my comedown and ended up giving me a panic attack. Sweaty hands, paranoia, and heartbeat increased. I took GABA CALM, and L-Theanine and a Klonopin in the end and slept. Today I feel unable to concentrate, a mild headache, and very tired. Eating helps but only temporarily. All in all I think that a day or two of sleep will be the only thing to help me function properly again. And todays my birthday too...happy fucking birthday. zzzzzzz

I have seen a lot of people agree with me here on BL on this but I can truly say that out of all the drugs/meds I have ever taken that amphetamines (specifically for me, Adderall) cause the quickest tolerance of anything.
