CEPS Well Hung Parliament (CEPS Social/Off Topic)

Which thread was this, exactly? Must have been pretty bad to be censored/closed/whatever; considering the 'unpopular' ideas of most-anyone here in society's eyes (re Drugs, obviously), it's always seemed that 'unpopular' ideas of other sorts are tolerated.

As for religion being a choice, well that isn't as clear cut as it sounds.
I agree. Didn't we argue a while back about not being able to choose beliefs?
L2R, could you quickly explain that? How can taking something on faith not be a choice?

There's also Bluelighters that refuse to participate in this forum because they perceive it as Islamophobic.
If moderation decisions alienate people like aanallien to the benefit of people who'd otherwise shun a forum over 'perceived islamophobism', it's to the detriment of the site.

^the thread wasn't censored or UA'd, just closed. http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/threads/697252-The-religion-of-peace-TERROR-ATTACKS-MEGATHREAD!

As for beliefs, i'm not sure what conversation 23536 was referring to. When i made that post, i was simply alluding to the uncontroversial correlation between location and religion. You only know what you are exposed to, and you don't choose where you are born. Therefore, the probability of which faith or lack of faith you live by is more determined by chance than choice.

You probably could go deeper to the meanings of choice and faith, but that wasn't my intention. That seems excessive to the point i was responding to.

Cannot say I'd have left it open when I modded, either.. it was shit, not because of ppl's sentiments, but the way it was being carried out. Similar ass-hattery on, say, war-on-drugs ideology would be just as dumb/cluttering and deserving of closure.

It's an interesting topic though, and one that would have made an interesting "discussion thread" if people were, yknow, actually discussing things. There's plenty of valid POV's there that can be driven home hard w/o acting like a child- it's hard to see user middleway as anything but in that thread :/

ugh, I hate health care. The way I'm going to have to eat to be able to afford health care is going to make me need the health care 8(

I wish there had been this much of a freak-out when Florida made auto insurance mandatory. Now, between auto and health, I'm looking at about at least $400 a month. That's roughly $13 a day I pay to get NOTHING! NOTHING!

$400? How old are you, and how expensive is car insurance in Florida?

30, and my mandatory car insurance (PIP+Liability) is $150 a month. I did have one accident in 2007 which wasn't my fault but the cop gave me the ticket anyway because I was unconscious and couldn't refute the other guy's bullshit story to the cop. How the hell do I get rear ended while stopped at a red light and still get a ticket???

Cops can be assholes.

^in the states that's their god given white .... oh shi... i mean ... right (of course).

What are the reasons ppl consider him a fake?
/disabuse? cannot say I'd ever heard that til now ;)

It's definitely an underused word. It's also one of the rare words in which a negating prefix does not produce the antonym of the root word (like famous vs. infamous).

The plagiarism thing kind of drove it home for me. Using Wikipedia in a speech isn't a big deal, but putting copywritten text in his books is pretty bad. So then, this cemented some other scattered impressions of insincerity I had gotten from him, like saying he'd be ok with police drones killing a fleeing liquor store robber, or saying to an audience of evangelicals that he doesn't really want to end the war on drugs.

Had he said he'd end the war on drugs? From quick googling, seems he claimed he'd get rid of mandatory minimums, and wasn't even being truthful about that.
[edit: apparently, he had- "We should stand and loudly proclaim enough is enough. We should not have laws that ruin the lives of young men and women who have committed no violence." That's pretty weak :/ Kind of wanted to like this guy, but have long-ago stopped hoping there'd be a politician I could truly respect :( ]

I respected Gary Johnson, but nobody seemed to want to vote for him. Presumably because the media's
kingmakers didn't think he was worthy of their attention.

Umm, doesn't that kind of go against his drone filibuster which forced Obama to reverse his decision on using drones on Americans? Am I missing something or did he do a 180 on policy? Because that filibuster is why he is famous.

It seems to me like he's really good at pretending to have firm convictions. But because they're fake convictions, and he's a little ADD, he ends up showing his hand every once in a while.

But even now on libertarian discussion forums he remains some kind of messiah, even though this plagiarism thing should cement the point that he's an impostor.

I kicked something really hard, and I think I broke my foot. I've had a boxer's fracture on my fist before. Is there such a thing as a kickboxer's fracture?
