CEPS Well Hung Parliament (CEPS Social/Off Topic)

It's easy to ruin the whole face of protest by a few pictures Bardeaux. You could at least explain that the majority of protests are for valid reasons. In other news, L2R just posted the most outrageous and substance-free response to the gun control debate and acted like he was superior for doing it. We should have rules about required substance in posts and not just petty name-calling.

^I wasn't referring to any protest. Just that sometimes calling someone a racist is actually justified and not just a card to play.

While that is true, the people on the media calling people racists are using it as a card. Just like everything else the media reports on, actually.

Anyone else find it rather weird you can link Star Trek: Voyager actress Jeri Ryan (better known as Seven of Nine) with the election of Barack Obama as President?

It's a pretty straightforward link - Jeri Ryan divorced her husband, Illinois would-be politician Jack Ryan. The divorce records were sealed.

Years later, in 2004, Jack Ryan was running for the federal senate seat. A court order unsealed the divorce order. It turns out that Jack Ryan was alleged to be rather kinky. Too bad Jack was running as a Republican. He withdrew from the race, which allowed his Democratic opponent, a three-term Illinois state senator named Barack Obama.

Four years later... well, you know this part.

I don't know where to post this but I don't understand how the terror attacks mega thread can be closed. That's just dumb and I've been here a LONG time so I've seen a LOT of dumb shit. This might be up there in the top 5.

Did you read my closing message?

A thread on terror attacks is fine. An Islam bashing thread, on the other hand, gets interpreted as a Muslim bashing thread by this forum's readers. Is it a Muslim bashing thread? Such a thing is technically not allowed on Bluelight:

PROHIBITED USE

4) You may not post or upload any content that victimizes, harasses, degrades, or intimidates an individual or group of individuals on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or any other reason.

Considering that Middleway showed an obvious anti-Islam bias and named the thread "Religion of peace" I can see 23536's point. However, I don't agree with censorship.

BL as an organisation which revolves around a highly controversial and important subject, illegal drug harm minimisation, can't afford to be seen to support illegal and amoral activity, hence the need for rules against things like racial/ethnic vilification and the sourcing of drugs.

this isn't 4chan

middleway's thread was clearly not about terrorism.

What a crock.

Pointing out the flaws in Islam is neither racial nor ethic.

Religion is a choice. Sexuality, skin color, etc. aren't. If you can't look at a religion and criticize it without it being considered bigotry, that's bullshit.

8 years ago this forum was alive with attacks on Christianity. I forget dudes name but he would deconstruct any pro christian thing all day long. SoHi and him would have battles basically nightly.

In a world where Catholic priests rape boys, Islamic countries shit on basic human rights and still stone people to death.. Why should we censor that conversation?

I'm done here. I've watched this steady slide for like 5 years and I'm over it.

All I see lately is anti-American rhetoric (which is fine) but you cross the line and mention Islam or China and it's like they can't do anything wrong. Bunch of hypocrisy.

Later bluelight.

Oh quit whinging. There's no damn blanket ban on religious criticism. Middleway stuns even those who share his concerns for his bigotry.

Stick around, bro. Come on. Don't be a baby.

As for religion being a choice, well that isn't as clear cut as it sounds.

There's also Bluelighters that refuse to participate in this forum because they perceive it as Islamophobic.

You really can't win either way, but that doesn't mean you should let bigotry remain.

As for religion being a choice, well that isn't as clear cut as it sounds.

I agree. Didn't we argue a while back about not being able to choose beliefs?

Oh quit whinging. There's no damn blanket ban on religious criticism.

Indeed. Discussing the pros and cons of a particular religion or religion in general is acceptable and encouraged. Blatantly using the forum to dehumanize devotees of these religions is not. Especially when every single thread middleway starts, it has something to do with how despicable this or that group of people are.

Threads that argue that members of a religion are all some extreme crazy stereotype, when posted repeatedly, earn mod actions.

This shouldn't be considered surprising.

I've been posting here since 2001 - that pretty much sums up everything I have come learn about the BLUA

And, in al due respect aanallein, I've known you under at least two guises, it should come as no surprise that that's how things work.
