It seems very plausible that I am having mild hallucinations. I haven't gotten much sleep in the past 24 hours. I haven't eaten much. A few TV dinners really. Anyway when I got back home with my prescription today I took 8 1mg lorazepam. When the effects kicked I then smoked a bowl. Two minutes later I see letters on this message board floating around, leaning left and right like they have a mind of their own. Obviously I'm hallucination a little bit, but I'm more interested in what caused it to even happen? I for one hate hallucinating. This is very mild so this is a LITTLE enjoyable just cause it's funny due to my ativan I guess. Anyway, thanks for any answers!

Lorazepam causes this effect in some people, usually at bigger doses. It's a paradoxical effect that is listed in the possible side-effects/adverse reactions. Lorazepam does not cause hallucinations for me personally, at any dose. But many people I know do get these hallucinations. Triazolam and lorazepam in particular tend to cause them.

Got a quote with some additional info as to why:
So-called "Paradoxical" Effects

"According to Professor Malcolm Lader, 5% of those using benzodiazepines may be affected by so-called "paradoxical" reactions in response to the drugs rather than the desired tranquillising effects. Such reactions include increased aggressiveness (in some individuals even violent behaviour), depression (with or without suicidal thoughts or intentions), and sometimes personality changes. In some instances, reactions such as hallucinations, depersonalisation, derealisation and other psychiatric symptoms occur.

Ativan (lorazepam) and Halcion (triazolam) in particular may produce dissociation and other psychiatric symptoms."

"Paradoxical" side effects occur in all age groups but are more likely to be found in children and in the elderly where they may be fairly frequent yet erroneously diagnosed as various psychiatric disorders. The risk of such reactions is generally greater with short-acting compounds but may occur with all benzodiazepine drugs. It is important to remember that the "paradoxical" reactions can also be encountered in short-term use and, in rare cases, even following the first ingestion of the drug.

Lorazepam sucks hairy donkey testicles.

If I took high doses I would have some sort of weird dysphoric nod type visuals when I closed my eyes...

Dysphoric being the key word..

Benzos are strictly for anxiety IME, I laugh when people try to get high off them.

Wasn't necessarily trying to get a high, just wanted to be REAL fucken mellow before I smoked my weed. I admit 18 was a bit much, but I get severe anxiety when I smoke weed so I like to dose pretty heavy on benzos prior to smoking, just makes it that much more fun to me I guess. I would also agree with you however that Ativan does suck. I would prefer diazepam, however I am 19 and live in the US so it's nearly impossible for me to get prescribed ANYTHING good what with all these doctors so scared of losing their licenses from the DEA these days. Off track.

Anyway, thank you both for your answers.

Cannabis alone can cause hallucinations in some people. The same with valium. as loing as your valium dose is too high i would worry about anything.

Lorazepam gets me in a dream like floaty state. Remember back in the day when I was drunk and on some lorazepam I sliced my thumb really bad with a knife.
Ended up just lettin it heals its self but it was so surreal when it happened took me a while to finally wrap my head around it.
