Legal Highs in London

A lot of people on this site have serious reservations about speaking to journalists, there have been many occasions in the past where a journalist convinced BLers to be interviewed under the guise the information would be presented in a factual and non biased way, something that rarely pans out to be the case.

I am not saying that all journalists do this of course, but it may help your credibility to elaborate on exactly what you want to find out and the angle that you are reporting on it from.

I couldn't live further from London and legal highs/RC's are the one class of drugs I have next to no experience with, so I am not a potential candidate, I just thought it was worth pointing out that if you want to get anywhere here a little more information could go a long way.

I think you may have just answered your own question here.

I am not a "legal high taker", though I agree with drug_mentor that people usually have (justified) reservations about talking to the press.
 
Legal highs - people take them for several reasons.

The legal highs have a wider array of effects than the standard illegal drugs sold on the street, you can buy them online and they are posted through your door so there is no phoning a dealer and waiting for them to show up, no worry of being caught in possession of a controlled substance etc. For some I would imagine the novelty factor would play a game but I would say costs / effects are the main factors.

There is however a big difference to the 'legal highs' you buy in head shops (branded Tablets, powders) to the highs that you can legally buy.
 
^Yeah I was just thinking the main reason is probably just that most people would rather order stuff online than go through a street dealer, for obvious reasons...haven't heard of that many people that have easy access to both legal and illegal highs and would prefer the legal if given the choice.

This is probably a stupid question but when people say 'legal highs' do they mean RCs in general or stuff that's actually completely legal? Cuz I feel like there's not a lot of the latter.

Thats what I was wondering - legal highs that you can pick up in the garage / head shops etc are very different to say something like Meph (pre ban). When pre ban Meph was still a 'legal high' people were using that instead of MDMA / coke due to effects, costs and availability, side effects, comedowns.

Jtom - could you clarify what you mean by 'legal highs' are you talking about alcohol, legal highs sold in head shops (branded pills n powders) or something else like 'Research Chemicals' etc

^Yeah, 'legal highs' is definitely quite vague. I used to think it referred to all RCs but then realised most of those are class A sooo...

You should maybe have a good read of that forum and ask around there if anyone will help. Think they may have a similar scepticism of journos though given how previous documentaries have portrayed the scene.
 
I wouldn't be caught dead talking to a journalist about drugs. There's no chance in hell I'd risk having whatever I'd have to say be twisted out of context through biased editing to suit the anti-drug agenda that pisses me off so much.
