Taking in waifs and strays can be a risky business -- though if nothing else, it should stimulate the old endorphin production a bitive inherited a couple of homeless people. what the fuck am i going to do with them? Its fucking pissing down and apparently the housing association have told them they're on the list but cant be housed in anyway shape or form right now. its a young couple. They've been sleeping in carparks.
These people probably aren't axe murderers or rapists. They might conceivably be after ripping you off. But those aren't actually the worst possible outcomes, if you apply the usual RPN formula -- the low probabilities and high detectabilities mitigate the severity. No, the worst possible outcome -- when severity, probability and detectability are all taken into account -- is that they outstay the welcome you extend them; turning you into a seething ball of resentment, a few pounds the poorer, and redefining you in the eyes of the world from the Guardian Angel who took them in from the streets to the Scrooge who turfed them out onto the streets. And you might not even notice it happening until it's too late.
And while we're in the FMEA mood, the probability of your house going on fire is a lot smaller than the probability of some random stranger being dishonest. Unfortunately. So make sure to lock all exits, and your bedroom door, overnight.
