Who plays the guitar here, and how good are you ?

if you want to read about a groundbreaking guitarist and his battle with drug addictions the this may interest you Mustaine: A Heavy Metal Memoir - Mustaine

most likely just up my street but how the fuck dave is still alive is beyond me and if you know anything about music and guitar playing you can't deny his importance in todays music fuck he helped create thrash metal and with megadeth started the world most state of the art speed metal band

Can't believe nobody's mentioned this woman yet. Jimmy Page, Neil Young and a whole host of other guitar legends would agree that she's just unbelievable:

And also, she invented gawky female sexiness.

Sweet Joni. <3

Glad you agree, Pagey!

Loads of Zep acoustic songs are basically Jimmy trying to play a Joni tune and ending up with something else.

For someone who could barely hold the strings down because of childhood polio, she's all the more remarkable. And damn, that pic gets sexier every time I look. And I didn't even fancy the woman till I became a fan. :D

Yup, I remember reading an interview of him where he basically described Joni as being not only one of his biggest inspirations, but also an absolute fantasy :D

Love that live version of Going To California where after the line about the girl who "plays guitar and cries and sings", Robert just smiles and says 'Joni' in a really dreamy way. :)

One of the best versions of that song too.

Plant, really?! I'd never heard he was on heroin as well. I did read a few times that he swore off all drugs after his son's death in 77 though.
But yeah it's pretty obvious Jimmy was a massive smackhead (think Wall says they got into it during their 75 tour), just look at his appearance in 77 and 79 - that and all the passing out on stage etc :\

Always wondered how long he was on it - at first I thought he'd pulled round just after the Death Wish soundtrack and The Firm but there's a recent Robert Plant interview where he mentions Jimmy finally getting over his "er...health problem.." in about 2001.

Think my fave Jimmy quote of all time is when he says "I'm trying to find an angel with a broken wing but it's hard to find one especially if you're staying at the plaza hotel".

Yeah, I think so! Probably the only woman that they were too in awe of to try and fuck. :D

Then again, Joni's taste in men was notoriously horrible - David Crosby and Graham Nash?

Nothing wrong with Nashy! Crosby is a bit of a wild card I must admit. Nash has just got an autobiog out that I'm going to check out. Think he met Joni in about 66.

Joni has got a bit of bite to her tho - did you hear her slagging off Bob Dylan last year? Said he's nothing but a plagarist.

Bob would no doubt agree. :D

C'mon, Nash? Great, great voice (and invented My Bloody Valentine with 'Lady Of The Island', but out of CSN, Stills was the only one who looked like he'd ever even had sex!

Stephen Stills (pre-coke-ruination) now there was a guitar player.

Aren't you the only person to have mentioned Tommy Bolin on this forum? Ever? Shame his talent will forever bear the tint of Coverdale, ain't it? Who'd want that as part of their legacy?

bob dylan, a plagiarist? im no fanboy, but come on, dylan is one of the few people who can claim to have influenced the most influential band, and perhaps within that, the most influential person itself, of the 20th century. dylan was already a star when the beatles were still a wide eyed, cover group. all music and especially the folk variety (and blues for that matter) - is built on borrowing ideas and using standard constructs for song creation. its first time ive ever heard dylan accused of unoriginality, anyhow

Yeah "Love the one you're with" is one of my faves. Did you see that recent doc on CSN? Pretty good history of em all.

Yeah I think I can safely claim the only Tommy mention! Coverdale back then was a different beast to the poodle-haired monster he became tho. Listen to his solo song Northwinds or Time and again, you can hardly believe it's the same guy

I'm a Dylan fan, and I know for a fact he'd be the first to admit his own plagiaristic tendencies.

Genius steals. Bob stole and put his own stamp on it. And what a stamp it was.

It's no secret thah this man is my idol:

Never played an original lick in his life. But anytime you hear Johnny, you just know it's Johnny.

No offence taken Pagey! I think there is something a bit shady about some of the zep stuff - it wasn't even just old public domain blues songs. For instance, see if this guitar lick from 1961 rings any bells!!

Nice guitar playing on stairway pagey btw!

I say that sounds more like allman bros one way out imo. Music is so subjective. If bob dylan is a rip off then I do not know what original is.

maybe some of his tunesmiths stuff was plagarised but as far as lyric writing is concerned it doesnt get much better than Dylan, along with bowie & lennon & mcartney. Why did Joni Mitchell feel the need to bitch about him. Its never nice to see people do that, its puts them in a bad light.

Here's an ancient vid of me dicking about when I started learning to tap wait till about 0:18 before I start going full speed. Was recorded by my ex on an old Sony Ericsson so excuse the sound quality. As I say this ain't no masterpiece just me warming up a bit
