Who plays the guitar here, and how good are you ?

I've been playing for around 5 years on and off. I've noticed I'm far better when I'm drunk than when I'm sober, and when I'm high on weed I'm absolutely terrible.

Do it!!! Remember though, don't get too proficient else you'll be accused of being a soulless wank merchant! Some people..=D

Tut tut. History shows that if you wanna be a great artist you can't be a great guitarist. Don't blame me i didn't make up the rules, its was Frank Black, Bob Mould, Dave Grohl etc...

Led Zeppelin in a guitar thread, I hang my head.
The biggest rip off of Blind Willie Johnson in a 15th rate way ever, take any old deep south guitar player, rip em off & play it like some 40 year old white guy trying to do blues.

Wasn't it Nobodys fault but mine they ripped off from Blind Willie? Also a couple of Willie Dixon songs. I think in the end they did have to credit a couple of the old blues guys. Memphis Minnie got a credit for levee breaks.

But then again, it's not as if Blind Willie was totally innocent - he was ripping off other blues songs he'd heard himself.

Are you taking the piss?

Mostly. Depends on the context though. Some guitars are untunable and, should you find yourself unable to tune the fucker, don't feel so down on yourself, and definitely don't hang up the gloves as a result.

Jeff Beck is bad ass, jimmy page too. I like page for his rhythm playing myself though, "how many more times" "dazed and confused" etc.. My fave from that era was Paul Kossoff from Free, tracks like "Mr Big" were just untouchable.

yeah the tension on the strings is a bastard, the merest twist of tuning one way or the other would either make the note too high or too low, it refused to settle on an in tune setting that day, and i lost patience. Thats not to say its untunable, but i just ran out of patience that day.

Thanks pagey yeah i learnt it, will sort it soon, get some pics up of the tele :)

Awesome :D

My tele (well not mine, but same model, Nsfw for size) -

stairway to heaven ? i spose thats the one most good ambitious guitarists aim for first. Can you play the solo at the end of comfortably numb, i think thats my favourite solo ? To be able to play most Led Zep and Floyd is a brilliant achievment, and you seem to be saying it self-dismissively.

Yeah I learned the Stairway solo a while back, first thing I properly worked on on guitar :) I do also know both Comfortably Numb solos, I'll try to upload either that or Stairway later tonight. But yeah thanks, I mostly just said it like that because it's true I really can't play much else haha

I have a few guitars but this is probably the best of the bunch. It's an ESP Horizon FR-2, pretty much identical to the one in the pic except mine has darker "gun metal" hardware.

A person that knows their music :)
Yeah blind willie ripped dark was the night from a old church song but in all my years of research that was the only thing he stole.

They did give credit for Nobody's Fault But Mine, and eventually for all of the other ones for which they failed to do so at the beginning. I'm fairly sure Willie Dixon was credited from the start though, although maybe that's just on the new album releases.
But as you said, that's what blues have always been about anyway. They learn off each other and work on each other's songs. 'Ripping off' is a completely idiotic way to put it.
No offense to you Ismene, I just don't like people criticising Zep :D

That's probably the nicest looking tele I've ever seen! I love maple fretboards.

Thanks!

Love the colour, it's really nice.

Right found a couple really old videos...my sense of fashion at 15 was cringeworthy but hey.

And uploading a recent version of the Stairway solo.

Cheers Dan :)

Right, messy (and probably out of tune) as I haven't really played it in about 6 months, but I guess that just honours Jimmy Page better:

thats my blind spot in music. The blues, rythm and blues, the start of everything.

The rolling stones started out as that type of band but evolved into it into modern rock n roll. I spose all the sixties bands only had what had gone before them to inspire them. One generation directly lead to the next for several generations. Bob dylan had his woodie guthrie, i dunno who the beatles drew their inspiration from after they stopped doing skiffle, and started writing their own stuff in their unique style. Was it entirely original or were they drawing on what had gone before ?. Im asking here cos im not sure.

I wish i hadnt sold that History of rock compliation of records i once had, i think it covered everything from tje from the 50s to the 80s iirc. Id know what you are talking about if i still had that. Whilst i can appreciate the talent of blues players it doesnt do much for me. Sorry if that makes me a philistine, but its all so formulaic, the same thing over over and over, im prepared to be shot sown for this post as i dont really know what im talking about.

Im gonna look into the names you mentioned and listen to them to fill in some of the missing gaps.

Music is very personal. One man's soulless wankery is another man's heartfelt expression. Different music touches us all in different ways. It's all good.
