Who plays the guitar here, and how good are you ?

Old recording, need to learn this properly, too much finger lift off my first finger should mainly capo the 2nd fret

Yea MDB I saw that story a few times, he was driven. And me not so much a R&R hero, Swarm used the word Crossroads, that's the name of the Dex's that we were doing back in the 70's. I would buy them by the hundred and in this case they helped, especially building up the calluses on the fingers. And ColtDan I brought the 12 because it sounded so rich. I had my doubts playing it as I have small hands. I'm 5-11 but they weren't what I thought I needed to play a 12. But hard work an shortcuts, different key, and using a lot of bar chords, anything, well almost anything can be played. Although a lot of my renditions were nothing to write home about. Some stunk, lol. I just read further and MDB your playing for the best reason, because its fun.

Did you learn 35 chords and start working on 5 beatles songs the first night you picked up the guitar ? That would be a fuckin awesome gift, if you did that.

Yea one night, can't remember exactly but I think it was from about 10-11 pm until the morning. I know during the day I was showing it off to guys in the hood who played and they were showing me some major, minor chords. But I took A chord book and a Beatle book in the car and a lot of speed, I had "Because" down and "please please please" but I couldn't show off at all the next day. I was dead tired hands fucked but happy with the results and just practiced finger positions air guitar style.

Awesome stuff Dan, I'm impressed with the RHCP one. Are you still working on that Zep song? =D

^I can play most Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd but that's kinduv it...and I'm absolute shit at rhythm guitar. Have a gorgeous Tele though <3

A few chords I'm terrible, can knock out three chord punk but that's about it. Put me on a bass guitar and I'm of more use even though I haven't practiced in years.

Thanks pagey yeah i learnt it, will sort it soon, get some pics up of the tele :)

Gonna learn this in a bit

stairway to heaven ? i spose thats the one most good ambitious guitarists aim for first. Can you play the solo at the end of comfortably numb, i think thats my favourite solo ? To be able to play most Led Zep and Floyd is a brilliant achievment, and you seem to be saying it self-dismissively.

Nice dexterity as well, those are good fingers as guitar fingers go.

ive got the perfect fingers for guitar playing, long and thin, but with a painful scar on the left hand forefinger tip. Would layers of superglue plastered over it really work ? I guess it might. There's only one way to find out. Last time i picked up my acoustic guitar about 2 years ago it just sounded dead and i couldnt even get it in tune, so it felt like that was a final admission of defeat. This thread is making me want to get back into it.

Do it!!! Remember though, don't get too proficient else you'll be accused of being a soulless wank merchant! Some people..=D

Joking aside, I have shit fingers for guitar playing, short and stubby. Doesn't really matter though, just takes a bit more practice to begin with.

Tuning is the hardest part of playing guitar, every string affects every other string. I spent half my early playing stuck in tuning abysses. Flea apparently used to fill his blisters with super glue so he could play for longer. I never went down that road but I use a lot of surgical spirit / isopropanol if i need my fingers to last.

Yeah, I was a massive Flea fan back in the day. I still greatly admire his style, just a pity he's toned down the slap and pop stuff these days.
