Laser eye surgery

Anyone had it done? I'm booked in for October 26th, really excited.

Am practically blind and unable to wear contact lenses nowadays, so glasses are like looking through a window into the world. Be great to have full-range vision again.

I keep coming across people who have had it successfully done so that's what gave me the incentive. Having the newest (and most expensive) technology which is incredibly safe these days. They started at 4 grand (!) and told them where to go so the sales lady 'checked with the manager' and gave me 2.8k with 30 months interest-free credit which is pretty nice.

Just researched my Surgeon and apparently he's done 61,000 procedures, which is pretty reassuring. 3-4k a pop, Optical Express are raking it in.
 
My Mum had it done and has had nothing but good to say about it, despite looking out the patio doors the other day at a bottle of weedkiller and shouting 'Look Olivia, a pheasant!'.

Anecdotally, I always loved the advert that says 'Wake up to laser eye surgery'; it has to be one of the last things I'd ever want to wake up to
 
I am fully expecting to be wandering around staring at random objects for a few weeks after the op. Going to be amazing.
 
I had lasik a few years ago and it's done the trick nicely, definitely glad I had it done.

The only downside has been slightly drier eyes than normal. And despite them saying the procedure is painless, I thought it was a bit stingy.
 
I had an appt. for an assessment about 3 years ago but was turned down for some reason . Can't remember the technicalities but it must have been real as i couldn't see them not wanting my £1600 or whatever it was .

I coulda looked at other places but i just took it as "if it was meant to be " type of thing .
 
I looked into laser surgery but i am 3/4 blind in one eye due to nerve damage that laser surgery cannot fix. I am very shortsighted with my other 'good' eye. Since i only have one workable eye it makes laser treatment very risky for me, and is not a risk im prepared to take.

I think i look better without glasses, and have disposable contact lenses, but i find them such a fuckin faff to fit over my eyes without getting finger grease smudges all over them even though im not a greasy sweaty person. They cling to the finger tips and dont seem to want to cling to the eye. All this faffing takes about ten eye poking attempts to get them to stick, and by then they are so smudged it makes them hard to see through, so i rarely bother with them.

Maybe proper sturdy glass/hard plastic contact lenses dont have this issue ?

I thought that was standard procedure for pretty much the entire forum, bar the teetotal ones ;)

For the first six months or so I was constantly amazed at how crispy-focused everything was. My prescription was only about -2 before, but it does for my vision what a low dose of acid does, but permanently.
 
Wow, it'll be a big difference for you!

Don't be disappointed if you're not at perfect vision immediately though as it'll take a while to heal, though you'll get pretty noticeable results straight away with that prescription. :)
 
Yeah apparently it literally starts working immediately, can't wait. Only one day of rest required, and its on a Saturday so no need to take day off work.

personally i fear eye doctors almost as much as dentists, so i dread the day that ill need one.

but alas, what a wonderous world we live in, where the blind can be given their sight back
 
I am short sighted as shit and useless without my specs. Can't see a fucking thing and stupidly reliant on them.

I need new glasses have had these for 5 or 6 years now and not even had new lenses added at my last eye test despite my eyes apparently getting better (that surprised me as they have gotten worse every single year of my life).

The sales staff at Specsavers were pissing me off with their patter so I left thinking I'd come back in my own time and sort a new pair our and never did. Tried to get a new pair before moving to BKK but left it too late.

Looked at laser surgery about 10 years ago but my eyes apparently had not stopped growing so couldn't get it. Tried a trial of contact lenses but me poking shit into my eyes when I woke up in the morning just wasn't and probably still isn't possible.

Lazer surgery might have to be reconsidered.
 
Go for it Spade, its very affordable these days with the long term finance plans they offer.

The problem with having a very severe prescription is that glasses are restrictive, in that the world is viewed through a window, the full peripheral vision around the frames is not there.

When I used to wear contact lenses everything seemed bigger and brighter due to having a full field of vision. Can't wear lenses any more because of the condition I have (causes super dry eyes), so this is the only way to get full HD 1080p vision again!

I was given a free trial of disposable Contacts & only managed to actually put them in my eye's once n then one fell out .
Don't know how folk can use em tbh .

My experience was EYEdnetical to yours . I rekon it's because your eyes reject having things put in them , i mean it's just not natural to be touching the lens of your eyes .
 
Its difficult to overcome the eyes natural reflex to flinch, once i did overcome that i still had the problem of the things folding in half, falling out of your eyes, or sticking to your fingers and not your eyes. On some rare occasions i did get them to stick without smudging them and they were great, they are much better than glasses if you're out hiking or cycling in the sun or rain, you get more of a sense of freedom, but they arent exactly user friendly. I think the designers need to improve the problems with them, or maybe it is all just about technique of fixing them on your eye. It takes a lot of practice and patience, i dont often have the patience to fit them.
 
That's the phrase i was looking for " Blink Reflex" .

Cos i'm very short sighted it made it all the more harder 2 get the damn things in . I don't have the patience either n Glasses are part of my character .

There are a few folk with the same first name as me in my city n i go by "........ with the Glasses " :)
