Study shows "LSD is good for you"

Hallucinogenic drugs may actually be good for you, a team of researchers has concluded.

Norwegian scientists have carried out extensive research on the effects of LSD - or trips - by studying drugs surveys from tens of thousands of Americans.

The findings are at odds with the long held belief that LSD and other 'mind-enhancing' drugs - such as mescaline and the drug psilocybin, found in magic mushrooms - result in flashbacks, paranoia and long term mental health problems.

Researchers Pal-Orjan Johansen and Teri Krebs from Norway’s University of Science and Technology in Trondheim examined the drug taking habits of more than 130,000 American citizens between 2001 and 2004.

Last year the duo even recommended that LSD could be an effective treatment for alcoholism.

Some 22,000 of those surveyed had taken psychedelic drugs at least once.

Their findings were published in the science journal PLOS One.

They wrote: 'There were no significant associations between lifetime use of any psychedelics, or use of LSD in the past year, and an increased rate of mental health problems. Rather, in several cases psychedelic use was associated with a lower rate of mental health problems.'

Mr Johansen said that previous studies on the psychedelic drugs had not proved that they caused chronic health problems in an interview with Norway’s English-language news website, The Local.

Mrs Krebs added: 'Everything has some risk; psychedelics can elicit temporary feelings of anxiety and confusion, but accidents leading to serious injury are extremely rare.

'Over the past 50 years, tens of millions of people have used psychedelics and there is just not much evidence of long-term problems.'

Instead, they said, the idea that the drugs caused mental health problems came from a small number of case studies, and that these patients were already suffering some form of mental illness.

They said psychedelic drug use and mental health problems both occurred in late adolescence and so were wrongly linked by researchers, the Independent reports.

Last year, the pair wrote in the British Journal of Psychopharmacology that one dose of LSD was 'a highly effective treatment' for alcoholics, and was 'just as effective' as approved and currently used medications.

Sixty per cent of the patients tested who had been given a dose of LSD had either stopped drinking completely or were drinking less than they were before taking the drug.

Well of course LSD is good for you. I ALWAYS feel much happier after an LSD trip even if ut was a bad one :)

^ Yeah, the only time that was different was the one trip where I used benzos to try and calm down. It killed my trip, like murdered it. Just left me agitated about what happened and blocked me from trying to work through it. Always best to just face it head on, Lucy and the other few magical drugs always have lessons to teach you, even if they seem harsh or dark at first

Who was it that said they took LSD and it cleared their sinuses for life?
I think it was someone here on Bl, dude took clean pure acid back in something like 69 and all the shit from up in his sinuses leaked out of his nose into a puddle on the ground and he never had a problem since.

I really wish I could try that shit, my nose always feels stuffed

This result was found earlier among mescaline users in the Native American Church, with users scoring equally to nonusers on most measures of mental health and better on "general happiness" or somesuch:

FWIW, my rheumatoid arthritis subsides whenever I take a psychedelic.

5-ht2a activation suppresses TNF-alpha with, as Dr. Nichols put it, "extraordinary potency".

LOL, vitamin supplements are bad for you (unless you have an actual deficiency)when you look at the papers. APAP and Ibuprofen trash the liver and stomach, getting off ssri's/benzos is torture, but tripping is remarkably safe a lot of the time.
Always love having that talk with new friends.

Vitamin supplements in correct dosages are not bad for you at all lol, but tripping is indeed safer than most OTC drugs and supplements

This is good news for the classic Psychedelics.... I would still be cautious about RC's that came out of the closet these last ten years... and for those who trip Daly and weekly... I admit I did that too from 69 to the mid 70's with LSD/Shrooms... I have only seen 2 people that changed them in a bad way... It now seems, that had to have been do to pre disposed mental illness ... Also Flashbacks; I have never had one, nor have I known anyone who has.... 400 LSD trips plus, I feel absolutely clear headed.... still... Shew~

Vitamin supplements in correct dosages are not bad for you at all lol

Not sure about that - think the latest research I read said taking omega-3 supplements increases your risk of developing aggressive prostate cancer by 71%.

Oh the joys of being white, with a rather ok social life, and mostly functional body. and all the options.
