Syrian civil war thread

This is way more interesting than Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Ossetia or any other war that I have seen in my lifetime. This situation has the potential of dragging the whole region to a very violent war. If attacked, Assad, the psychopath that he is, might fire against Jordan, Turkey and Israel (is almost 100% sure that he will attack Israel together with Hezbollah). Iran might get involved in a small scale too. Syria is not anything like Iraq or Afghanistan. They massive millitary forces, and although most of it is shitty, they have a few high quality weapons systems. They invested a lot in anti-aircraft defense and missiles. The long range missiles they have can inflict a tremendous damage on Israel, Turkey and Jordan urban centers. And the NATO forces have never dealt with the kind of air defense Syria has today. Also they have never attacked someone with so much allies like Syria (Russia China, Iran).

I'm pretty sure most of this was being said about Iraq in 1990. And Iraq attacked Israel too. I remember Hussein promised the mother of all wars and shit.

Iraq had a million-member "elite" Republican Guard IIRC. I don't know what the current capabilities of Syria are but I'd be surprised if they're superior to Iraq pre Desert Shield.

That was pre Iron Dome too. Israel is better able to defend itself now.

Amazing what a decade of economic repression will do to a people.

i dont understand how anybody can be against military action.....

imagine if there was civil war in usa, yeah, your home not just some arab shithole you dont give fuck about, image that people will fight goverment for two three years with ar 15s,being slaughtered by all the gadgets of us army and the rest of the world will be like "help? nope, just die peasents"

You're right. Remember the last civil war we had? Any time US has civil war Syria is there to save the day.
watch that vice report, look at that child with intestines just hanging out being helped by probably best person on earth a doctor that refused to leave a hospital witch look like ruin knowing its suicde that any moment another artillery might land tearing his body to thousands pieces in milisecond..... asad is huge motherfucker and needs to be killed asap

Right, let's go to war for the children!.

I can count on one dick how many children war has ever helped.

Apologies for the double post.

These kind of things prove that, outside of all of the conspiracies and the policies everyone hates, Obama is a rather ineffective leader. Good at being charismatic but bad at everything else. and there's plenty of charismatic leaders that led their nations to ruin.

AMEN!

(I'm a former soldier, and somewhat of a military historian, and you are absolutely right.)

SEA, the Syrian electronic army claims that if Obama attacks they will commit to a DOS attack. They have already attempted placing adds to disrepute US political agendas. The times fed the massive feed back to the Syrian server crashing it.

I fucked up and posted that thread before I finished it. I'll be a blue in no time if I keep that up.
To finish up, the article mentioned that if Iran was to assist in the dos the effects could be worse. There was mention that if either Russia or China assisted that we would be in big trouble. The article mentioned that this is the first time the US has gone against a country that has the ability to use electronic warfare against us.

"Assad moves government forces to civilian populated areas in anticipation of US attack"
(BBC News)

Smart thinking there; dissuade attack by maximising the probability of collateral damage in the event of tactical air strikes. I wonder how that will work out for him....

This is all beginning to sound like NATO's "humanitarian war" in Kosovo.

If you seriously apsire to lead military campaigns against any and all factions doing this very same thing worldwide, you're going to need a bigger army.

And you'll probably want to forget the African continent exists.

You can't reasonably police the world without some kind of standard (fwiw I don't believe in policing the world in any sense).

If a person want's to lead military campaigns, they need more than a large army. The logistics alone are 80+% of any military campaign, which means you have to have factories and workers to build the materials, and resources to build those materials, which means natural resources and the people that know how to extract them or produce them. Empires are not easy to build, and even the largest one the world has ever seen took 50+ years to get this large, and it still is incapable of subjugating even a small country the size of Iraq.

Breaking news. Two missiles are detected and are being tracked by Russian war ships.

As an American I am so sick of this shit..

If this was to be voted on by the people it would never fucking pass. Our government is so out of control.

I think most of the Western world is sick of this shit. There's been demand from some MP's and senior politician's to hold another vote in the UK. Total fucking bullshit. You voted once, your ass got handed back to you, END. It's amazing really, you can actually see the "hidden hand of power" making its move when it gets this desperate.. like the Irish EU referendum vote, when they went back for a second vote. Incredible stuff. Shows you the desperation of those in control to get things going their way.

I'm really sick of the media coverage of Syria. Once again the majority of the media, especially the BBC, have only been giving a one sided account of this chemical weapons claim. There is no balance. Not once have they ever mentioned the fact that rebels were caught with sarin back in May, by Turkish authorities. It's all so similar to the Iraq war buildup, the Libya buildup. Same media bias. Only after the dust settles does anyone say anything about it. The media is so in bed with the government when it comes to war related issues.. disgraceful.
