Don't bother with GCSEs. If your initial aim educationally is uni, go do an access course.
I'm probably in an unusual situation as I'm in my 30s, I've been to university, got a degree, I'm working, and actually that's going v well at present but I always regret not having continued with the science side of my education. So I don't think this would lead to uni exactly. If I went to degree level I'd probably have to do it part time. It's a lot of ifs and buts at the moment!
I know nothing about this... does an access course still sound relevant?

As I accepted the fact I'll need to side with the Lannisters I felt this huge amount of guilt towards the Khaleesi and kept repeating 'Dothraki' in my head. Ayra was also looking over my shoulder with a look on her face like she had just been betrayed. Very strange but interesting to go through :D
