Getting mom to try medical marijuana

Hello my mom is suffering from chronic pain due to fibromyalgia. This has lead to her have depression and anxiety. Of course she is on more pills than I can count which she's wanted to get off of for a while, including oxy, Xanax, hydro, somas. I really think weed would help her more than anything(forgot to mention she also has insomnia). She has admitted to me to smoking when she was younger, but she still views it as unhealthy and brain damaging. My question is how would you go about talking to her about marijuana for medical purposes?

You should compare with her the unhealthy and brain damaging effects of cannabis to those from oxycontin, xanax, somas, etc.

Your best bet is to turn her on to edibles. I feel like a lot of older people are just turned off by the idea of smoking weed but if you phrase in a way that sounds more appealing to her ("all you have to do is eat this brownie and you'll feel great") then she might be more likely to start to consider it. And also show her the facts. Weed doesn't cause brain damage, that is an outdated misconception due to bias experiments done in the past. With everything she's on right now, her brain is probably going through hell.

And also, if she still refuses tell her to ask her doctor about gabapentin. This is a much safer alternative for her situation than the things she is currently prescribed.

this.
She's probably addicted though, or at least severely dependent. And if she tries it during withdrawals, she will get paranoid and probably get a bad impression.

I've had a couple of bad addictions to pills and weed was the way i made it through all of them. From my experience, it's only helped me get over the withdrawal symptoms.
Again, edibles will make for a strong body high which will be more efficient for her pain, and they also don't really give you that paranoia that smoking weed can lead to sometimes IMO

you need to get her a strong indica, preferably some BHO. It won't take much.

^Marinol is only synthetic thc and is extremely ineffective for pain since it doesn't contain any other cannabinoids.

If mom prefers pills, then respect her wishes. I know when I was prescribed pain meds, I couldn't smoke weed (pain contract and all that) But being opiated I was happy with that. I'm off the meds now more than 2 years. What's healthier, I think we can agree weed is better overall. As opposed to an addiction to pills that only gets bigger the longer you take them. Is she open to it, that's my question?

According to my research, cannabis strains rich in CBD have been used to relive the chronic pain of fibromyalgia . Your mum obviously doesn't want to get high; so look for strains with CBD as the dominant cannabinoid (around the 4% mark) , As CBD is not psychoactive in its self, but moderates the other cannabinoids)

AS others have posted, eating the cannabis is appropriate for medical use. ( its worked for me in the past, as the effects are stronger and more physical) not to mention it carries less of the "druggy" stigma of smoking.

Tell her to eat edibles or vape bud or BHO. That is not really unhealthy at all. Also, like the above poster said, tell her to get a high CBD low THC strain if she doesn't really like the "high" feeling. She can read www.projectcbd.org. She will still benefit.
