Vigorously wiping the dust off dustbins.
So I'm being fined for at least 3 different things but the problem is I can't even afford to eat properly, let alone pay a f*cking fine.

Has anyone else here had experience with not paying fines?
What can I expect?

I got in touch with addaction who said they should be able to help provided I follow a treatment programme.

Answers on a postcard..

Are they meant to be paid in one go or in installments? I imagine that if you don't pay and don't make contact it will progress to bailiffs pitching up and taking things quite rapidly.

Contact the people issuing the fines ASAP and tell them you can't afford to pay them and see what payment plans they offer (will stop any interest / legal action being taken). If you don't pay them then the costs can mount through administration costs for follow up letters, contacting the small claims courts etc.

Depending on what the fines are for then the person issuing them may give you a grace period, a follow up letter and then hand the collection over to an agency (and charge you for the expense) - these will contact you by letter (and charge you), then apply interest to the amount. If its utility bills then they can seek police help to forcefully enter your home - take meter readings and then take you to court. You will then have to prove your skint and they will offer a payment plan (that you could have done before all the extra costs) or jail you (depending on costs).

None payment round here you have to go to Court, I'm paying a fine of £120 off at £30 per 2 weeks.
It was that or a week in jail.

Good luck.

Well, it depends on what kind of fines are them ? Corporate fines or government fines ? If they are corporate fines, like a parking company I would ignore it, but if they are government fines like speeding ticket etc, you have to pay it. It is really not cool to go into prison even 1 week, because it will be recorded, and next time if you have any problem they will judge you by it, and receive higher punishment.

I don't think Bearlove works the prison canteen.

They probably call it a restaurant nowadays.

That makes me sound like I've sampled the food, I have not.

I think the bit in token's reply about this potentially affecting any future scrapes is well worth bearing in mind, man. Can you speak to them, plead poverty and try to find a way to pay off v small amounts regularly? Ultimately it's probably better for them and you to get the money in a very slow trickle rather than spend money banging you up.

Also there are some cases, when you can work for a few days for them instead of paying the fines. Idk on which cases have this as an option, but I am sure sometimes they make sentence for public works. This is probably the best way.

battling unfair parking fines also. such a long story I cannot be arsed. They said we owed £330 for 3 days parked in a "business zone". We're appealing. They cancelled one of them, we're appealing the other two, it's down to £220.

If we HAVE to pay it, we're gonna pay in coppers. Delifvering 220 000 pennies to the council should fuck their day up a wee bit... I'll have a reciept for that! cunts.

HMCS came and picked me up from the house a couple of weeks ago and put me in a cell for half a day. The fine did get cut in 2 with a later starting date. I had the same happen 3 years ago for the same fine.

My mate reckons they only took me to meet a target coz I'm a little girl on my own. Also, they saw me pop my head up. Funny day it was coz my son went to lock me in on his way out, I told him not to. They 'd have walked in were it not for the dog. Stood there for ages shouting my name and proper hammering the door, ringing the phone. I blanked em for ages , went and had a bath, I'd drank a litre of poppy tyea so i was alright. It was when they said that they were getting the police to arrest me I decided to go. Of course that could have been a lie but I didn't fancy getting locked up over night.

Got to be worth at least going in a properly talking to them about this option, your money problems must be at least in part related to your current drug use.

AFAIK non payment of court fines leads directly to a warrant being issued, you don't need that kind of hassle.
