which anti histamines are safe to use as sleep aids

Impressive :) Are you getting decent sleep?

What are your thoughts on pregabalin? It helped me tremendously in (benzo) WD, miracle pill like.

i dont blame you for not having read all my OP as it was so long, but i have blown out / burnt out any chance of receving hypnotic effects from benzos by building a heavy and sustained tolerance. They still work for anxiety though, which quite frankly im amazed at. Plus with my new meds Mirtazapine also making me feel calm, i defiinately feel for the first time that its achievable for me to quit benzos.

Before hand i had resigned myself do being an addict for life.

Excellent news.

A very versatile substance and very useful to have around. A mood lifter, a brilliant neoropathic pain killer, boosts benzos and anything else that helps you sleep. And as you say, helpful for WD oiff other substances.

I hear that they are physically addictive and that the WD from pregbalin is said to be particularly horrific and one of the worst things to WD
from. I do manage to use these only occasionally. Thumbs up from me. I once took 5 or 6 as an experiment and things began feeling very much like a bad trip, so i wolfed a handful of benzos asap. I dont see the point in taking any more than 2 pills, unles you have really intense pain, or enjoy the wacky high. I rarely take more than 1.

Its really weird that our American cousins can not afford to get these as they are incredibly exopensive. But an indian online pharmacy has basically just stuck 2 fingers up to the patents office and they are happily sending out packages around the world as cheap as chips.

Any sleep is decent sleep for me. Because im new to Mirtazapine im getting acute cravings for sweet food if i wake up during the night (about 4 times a night) but thats the only problem atm. I think it passes with time, fuckin hope so.....

Apparantly all these fucking antihistamines hasten the onset of alzheimers tho.

The anticholinergic effects of drowsy antihistamines do temporarily decrease your cognitive abilities, but if you're relatively young, you should be fine. I haven't heard anything about short to medium term use hastening Alzheimers unless you're a certain age. These antihistamine sleep aids should not be used by older people for a variety of reasons.

To answer the title of the thread (OTC antihistamines useful for sleep), consider the three below, subjectively ranked from strongest to weakest:

Promethazine (Rx only in USA, "P" OTC medicine in UK)
Doxylamine (OTC in USA)
Diphenhydramine

Low-dose Seroquel (25-50 mg) is a prescription drug that also has strong antihistamine properties and it sometimes used as a sleep aid. The antipsychotic properties are close to nil at such low doses. Unlike the other three drugs, it doesn't have anticholinergic effects.

Nah, that's not the case at all. The sedating antihistamines really do work, sometimes too well. I've been late for work on more than one occasion due to diphenhydramine still being in my system the following morning.

Even the herbal ones help a little. I tend not to use them though as they always give me a heavy feeling in my chest.

Fair does, just not been the case with me, maybe the fact I suffer from fairly intense Hayfever has something to do with it as in I do them every Summer - even early spring and Autumn at times - and have done for as long as I can recall really. But yeh, either way I have never found them useful for sleep. A double Vodka before bed is more useful in that regard ! :)
