Stimulants Why is it sometimes when taking Amp's I can get depressed?

Every single time I take an opiate(ioid) I will always get a great mood lift, euphoria. I have NEVER done an opiate and got depressed or withdrawn.

Occasionally when dosing Amps(addy) I can actually get very depressed and just want to be left alone(withdrawn). I guess stim's in general with me there is always the chance of becoming depressed. If stims specifically target dopamine directly(unlike opiates which act indirectly-hence almost all stims C2) why do I become depressed and less social?

Anyone else have stims effect them like that? One note:vyvanse has never left me feeling bad.

Come to think of it, maybe. But why is it that? If stims either cause dopamine release or block the reuptake creating a gain in dopamine why is there no slight mood lift... Why does it cause the exact opposite?

I've always been puzzled about that in regards to stims. Relative to me, stims are scheduled way to high. They r never constant in their effects, do not cause massive WD symptoms. Opiates every time I take its a mood lift, euphoria, energy, sex drive... I'm a super human. But with stims euphoria is not all that common, hard crashs.

are you taking amphetamines on a daily basis? if i take them everyday for 2weeks i start to get reaaaallly depressed even when im on them

Because set and setting do matter, after all.

The long and short of it is, dopamine is not a "feel good, feel happy" chemical. It is more of a "novelty" chemical; it is released when the unexpected happens.

Lots of people end up getting to the point where amphetamines lose their euphoric potential and are then just stimulants. It is typical tolerance at work.

^thank you for your post. i was always under the preconceived notion is the happy NT

Thank you for replies.

It can't be tolerance as I do stim's about once a month. It's crazy I can find on the regular almost everything but stim's, hydromorphone, oxymorphone.

It's just strange to me that almost every time I do an opiate I get a sense of well being but with stims its not always the case. Just very curious as to why this happens.

Same thing happens to me with 2-FMA and 4-FA (the only stimulants I use regularly). Sometimes they make me sensitive to sound or just plain cranky. I find that taking smaller doses less frequently really helps. If you're forgetting to eat and sleep that can definitely aggravate it.

I know it's a really generic answer, but people react differently to drugs. Alcohol ALWAYS makes me terribly depressed/aggressive; psychedelics are usually a bad time and opiates are great nearly 100% of the time. I've heard of people getting pissy on opiates or even MDMA.

When I was in a routine of taking adderall, I would experience this frequently. For instance, after taking a break, I would have maybe a week or two of desired effects on a daily dose, and then a sudden reversal of the effects. It was almost as if the drug was inducing symptoms that mirrored the crash, skipping the stimulation and mood-lift phase.

dopamine isn't a straight up "pleasure-chemical", it can also cause us to feel irregular emotions.

i'd have these mixed moods when i'd take adderall sometimes. at which point i'd feel like just watching tv or complaining about life with a friend lol. usually happened whenever i used more than once a week though.

people with adhd tend to become withdrawn after taking their meds as well. there's many possible answers as to why you felt like this.

this is likely the result of dopamine depletion combined with a less than adequate diet due to the stims appetite reduction so the addition of phenylalanine or L-Tyrosine in supplement form and feel the change.. if you are low on dopamine after an extended period and take the amps and nothing really happens then with the addition of one of these substances it is likely you will like you just started the run on stims.. in a pinch many sugarless coffee sweeteners contain this and can be used as well.

Thank you, I just got back from buying those supp's. I have a script for nuvigil the 250mg. I don't have insurance right now so I only buy on rare occasions and usually just two or three of them. Today I bought two of them and Nuvigil at the right dose almost always has me feeling really good. A great sense of well being, desire to do stuff, very sexual. It has never done to me what stims can do, by being uncertain in how I will feel.

I rarely do stims. I work out a good bit. Six foot tall and 187lbs with 14.3% body far. I eat well, protein shakes, creatine, hmb. I sleep great almost always crashing at 830pm up at 445am. Even while on stims I can sleep great.

powerlifting is what got me off stims in the first place. seriously, adderall is extremely catabolic for me. i lost 6 pounds after a 2 day adderall binge lol. horrible stuff.

speeds up your BMR, raises cortisol, suppresses appetite, messes with insulin sensitivity, and when you crash it raises prolactin which will cause a drop in testosterone levels and sex drive.

modafinil on the other hand is a lot lighter on the body, it's a heck of a pre workout and it lasts all day.

good point neversick :)

Because they work on the same reward pathways in your brain that moderate depression/happiness, feelings of being whole or incomplete. With long-term or habitual use, they re-train your bodies reward pathways so that you become depressed when you don't take your amphetamine of choice.

I've never experienced this with dextro-methamphetamine. What are you taking? Mixed amphetamine salts? or dextro-amphetamine?

Mixed mostly... I've noticed with Vynase that happens way less freq.

Hopefully here in a few weeks Ill try meth for the 1st time. I've been reading and watching collecting notes on shake and bake.

Shake and Bake takes too many shortcuts in an already-easy recipe, and it yields utterly shit quality crank vs traditional synthesis, but we don't allow synthesis discussion here. Please factor in that with shake and bake, when you're working with those lithium strips and letting them do their thing in combination with everything else..... one drop of sweat / water = boom, dead or hospitalized. I would even go as far as to say that shake n bake is more dangerous than the real/oldschool way of making it.

Thank you very much for the heads up. I do have to take that into great consideration as I live in area that is almost always 100% humidity. Sweet does not work for cooling purposes.

I have a face shield that protects blasts from 13,000 volt faults, very heavy fire retardant cloths, and I have been reading for hours a day. Will all this save me, nope... But hopefully with proper education and safety precautions in place I can minimize the inherent danger of this method.

No more talk of that, once again thanks.
