Questions about magic mushrooms-first time

So I'm almost 17 and I'm planning on trying mushrooms for the first time next week. A friend of mine recently tried them and had an amazing time. He said he can get some for my friend and me if we want to try them. I really want to, and I think I'm mature enough to handle it. I've only done weed and alcohol before, but I don't have any interest in trying any other drugs besides a hallucinogen. I'd also rather try shrooms than LSD because I think they are safer and natural. I've always been very interested in spiritual and otherworldly things, and I want to see how I can grow from shrooms. However, I'm a little nervous about the possible negative effects psychologically. I'm planning on doing them with another friend in her bedroom when her parents are out all day. The friend who tried them before is going to be with us but isn't going to be on them, so he'll be there to us through it if we start freaking out. I would love to know what people think about me being maybe a bit young to try them and how to take them with the least likelihood of having a bad trip. Thanks!

just a side note, but many natural things can kill you. shrooms are pretty safe though, as is LSD.

sounds like you are doing it right to me. you might want to have the option of leaving the bedroom, or going outside, because you might feel a little closed in if you have to stay in one room. outside is the place to be while tripping for me. inside can be good too though.
17 is maybe a little young to eat mushrooms. you could wait.

Shrooms and LSD are equally safe, as long as you are CERTAIN that you are taking the right shrooms, or real LSD.

17 is a bit young to be taking drugs (any drugs), but as long as you don't take them often, shrooms probably won't hurt you.

The first time that I did shrooms I was 14, at night in my room at my parents house. It was amazing. Now I'm 15, I've done shrooms on 2 other occasions, and plan to do them again (I've got some right now), possibly this weekend.

Age ain't nothing but a number, man. I would strongly suggest it, especially because you've got a trip sitter and one other person that you're tripping with. It'll be great, just don't take a whole lot the first time. The more you take, the stronger the chance is of a bad trip.

To be perfectly honest, I couldn't suggest anything to you about mushroom dosage, because I live in amsterdam where they're sold over the counter as truffles, which has the same psychoactive (psilocybin) but are much smaller and less potent so you need a lot more for the same effect. From what I can tell, you shouldn't exceed 1-2 grams your first time. Anything more is biting off more than you can swallow.
My first trip was 15 grams of atlantis truffles, which was just the perfect amount. And yeah, just choke em down man. One idea is eating them covered in chocolate.

Check out the movie Tripping With Caveh, it's just like a half hour documentary where filmmaker Caveh Zahedi and singer Will Oldham do shrooms together, but it's nice. The reason I bring it up is because they eat chocolate-covered shrooms, and they argue over whether Will should do 1 or 2 grams, haha.

How old were you the first time? And thanks for advice on going outside. I've heard being outside is amazing, but I've also heard it might be good to be inside your first time.

Inside and outside both have benefits. Mushrooms really are a nature-synergy and connection-to-nature if you know what I mean, but inside can also have a very rewarding experience. Feeling safe is very important on mushrooms, and that's much easier to accomplish when indoors - basically, you will generally have more control over your trip if you're indoors.

But if you have access to a very private and quiet outdoors area, absolutely go for it.

There's one place by my friend's house that's really nice. It's like this boardwalk with benches and trees and then it clears to this area with reeds. It's beautiful and not many people go there, but I wonder if it's a good idea to be there for our first time. She said she want's to do it there in case her parents come home, but I've been told you want to be inside for your first time because, like you said, you feel safer. Do you think we should just go for it and do it outside in that area? Did you have a better experience outside?

No, nature is great and when I'm inside I get a bit claustrophobic on mushrooms. I think most people say that because you don't want to be in public for your first trip, but if it's a nice quiet little place then I don't see a reason why not.

My first experience was at night, in my room. I chilled out, put on a playlist, got comfy, and tripped balls. My parents were asleep two stories up.

That being said, the outside experience is amazing and rewarding in its own right. It's all set and setting man. If you're pretty sure that no one's going to swing through wherever you're going, and there's a place where you can chill and get comfortable, go for it. It's definitely way better than having your parents (or your friend's parents) come home and busting you (my mom busted me and 6 friends tripping once....worst experience of my life, had to peak while sitting with my friend who was freaking out and throwing up in the bathroom...and you can imagine this turn of events didn't please my parents too much either)

it's ultimately your call man. I'd say that safety and solitude are the paramount things that you should look for in your first trip.

And if someone does walk by, just know that the chances of them noticing you being on something are very slim, as long as you're not freaking out about them noticing lol. A few people being in the area isn't a worry, a not-so-crowded place is enough really.

Yep, I've managed to actually hold a 5 minute conversation with my mom while being on a substantial amount of psilocybin, before she went back up and left me in peace. Mind you, it ruined about 30 minutes of my trip (took me a while to get back into it, and pick up where I had left off), but I managed it, even though I was pale and my pupils were pretty dilated.

lsd and psylocibin are both safe drugs. and the "natural" thing (for me obviously) is just a plain bullshit. but that's not what you asked.
so I was saying, both are eqyually safde drugs, just don't take too much and be in an anviroment in which you feel safe and at ease. which seems you already planned

Awesome, thanks for all the advice guys. Really appreciate it. If anyone has any more suggestions for ways to avoid having a bad trip, suggestions are welcome. Also, is there any way we should eat them? Is it better to just take them raw?

Age ain't nothing but a number, man.

I'm inclined to disagree when psychological development is taken into consideration. Shrooms have the potential to be quite powerful and I've seen cases where people were too young to deal with a proper psychedelic experience and experienced anxiety for weeks following their experimentation. That said I've also known a ton of kids who've had many psychedelic experiences between the ages of 15 and 17 and I'd certainly consider them stable. It's just something to approach with caution when age and development are a factor.

I would say eat them raw. Try for around 2 grams for a first time. Eating a full eighth may be a little overwhelming, but 2 grams of decent shrooms will give you a taste of what you're getting yourself into. Avoiding a bad trip at such a dose should be pretty easy as well, especially with a sober trip sitter. They'll be there to remind you that you're only experiencing the effects of a drug and it'll wear off should any bad thoughts come up. Have good music on hand as well.

I'm going to recommend at least 2 grams if not a bit more, your first trip has potential to be something you'll treasure for the rest of your life, you don't want to sell yourself short. Just have good relaxing music, don't expect too much, and close your eyes.

Every trip has the potential to be something you'll treasure for the rest of your life. There's nothing wrong with easing yourself into it, not that I disagree with your recommendation.

Can they actually have a negative affect on my development at 17? I've been told that's not really true, but I don't know.

Quite a few opinions on that here. You should make the assumption that psychedelics will have an effect on your development as a human being. We can't predict what will come of it, whether it'll be easy or with a long rough transition period, it's something everyone finds out for themselves. You need to be able to accept what comes to you, and make the best of it. Do you want change?
