why have tumblr 'grunge' girls adopted acid as there supposed drug of choice?

Not sure if anyone has noticed this, but on the blogging site tumblr (popular with younger girls) there's a new youth culture called 'soft grunge', or something, which is heavily inspired by early 90's grunge, Nirvana and Kurt Cobain are blogged repeatedly.

But these girls also blog loads of 'psychedelic' pictures, loads of pictures edited to have that tracer/ delay sort of effect you get on psychedelics, and loads of references to acid all the time. Why acid? the original grunge movement was never particuarly acid influnced, there were a few songs and stuff (Black Hole Sun) but I think most people would accosiate heroin more with grunge than acid.

Probably best they don't start glamorizing heroin, but I'm surprised the 'heroin chich' thing isn't popular at all, wheras the 'acid, far out man' style mentality is.

Yeah this is pretty pointless wondering but I get interested in cultural shit like this, Don't ask me why.
 
Well actually LSD was a popular drug in the grunge scene, especially in the early years. Idk about these chicks, or tumblr or anything, but there was a fairly psychedelic nature to grunge music, and the images and culture that surrounded it. Have you ever seen the "come as you are" video? and a famed grunge band called tad, who named one of their albums after a blotter acid name, "8-way santa".

I guess actually Pixies had a big influence on grunge and they were quite obviously inspired by psychedelics.
 
Acid always goes hand in hand with music. Is acid cool again? When I was in HS it had such a bad reputation as a drug for old hippies and if you did it you would jump out a window or go insane. I was considered more hardcore by my friends for doing acid when they were using heroin.

I recently saw a picture of Justin Beiber edited to have that tracer/ delay look that you get while on psychedelics.

here in the ohio burbs where there's nothing else to do without leaving the town you're in people love their lsd. I know nothing about tumbler though
 
Maybe it's the other way around - psychedelics can sometimes lead to people widening their music tastes and discovering and exploring new sub-cultures. I think the majority of Nirvana fans are somewhat involved in drugs, whether it be weed, or opiates, or psychedelics, or something else.

There's a tendency for psychedelic pictures to be the most popular form of drug-related posts on Tumblr so it stands to reason you'll see more of them posting those than you'll see them posting shots of needles and bags of dope. :p

I think it comes with the fact that psychedelic/trippy pictures are usually cooler to look at, and a lot of these grunge blogs are just that - blogs designed entirely around looking in fashion/nice.

I run a Tumblr blog myself and 99.9% of what I post is psychedelic pictures, even though I don't even take psychedelics *that* frequently. I mainly just enjoy the pictures. I do post other drug related stuff though too, but it usually gets washed away in a sea of trippy gifs.

When you think about it, LSD (any visual psychedelic really) is a bit like Instagram for real life, so I'm not surprised it's gaining popularity ;) Acid is still my favorite psychedelic so far, but good blotters (as in: actually contains roughly the amount of LSD 'advertised' and only LSD, no NBOMe or whichever other compounds people try to sell as acid) are hard to get and/or quite expensive, for me at least.

This is very likely the case. I was going to comment on the lack of availability of acid in most places - so I questioned if the Tumblr girls had just adopted everything but the drug itself.. then I saw the above quote.

I really don't think this is true. where I come from LSD isn't super common, but it's always LSD, if it isn't you will be told. (usually with the words "better than acid" used) these chemicals are less common than plain ole acid, they are more sought after by some. although this is coming from a circle of friends that are involved in the festival scene. maybe in high school kids would sell DOx's has LSD, but how does I high school kid get such valuable compounds anyway?

Hahaha exactly...... the most memorable ''Acid'' ive seen was 2c-b in vodka lol such bullshit...take a drop its acid doode yaya of course

Most of the LSD nowadays aint LSD....If you dont got good real connects in my opinion forget the real LSD. I higly doubt high school people still get the real shit like it was before...
 
That sucks. I used to love acid. Particularly the gel tabs. I went through sheets one year. It's a shame people now a days have a difficult time finding good L. Apparently the days of getting delicious blotters of good, clean, fluff are gone.
 
Back when I was a little grunge punk. (Yep, I adapted the grunge look & lifestyle while I was in highschool) Marijuana & opiates were the bees knees.
But that was almost 13 something years ago. This generation is all kinds of fucked up, so who knows where they'll end up at.

I feel bad if that's how things are for you... in my neck of the woods there isn't a doubt. other chemicals on blotter are sold as those chemicals. 15 year olds get real LSD in my town.
