NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Two men were arrested after police said they stole more than 14,000 prescription pain pills from a pharmacy on Sunday night.

Police said 27-year-old John W. Stewart had a gun when he walked into the Rite Aid on Robinson Road around 5:30 p.m. An affidavit said he demanded pain pills from the pharmacy clerk. He then jumped over the counter while the pharmacist got the pills, and put them in a trash bag. Police said approximately 14,000 pills were stolen along with $500 cash from the cash register.

Stewart ran out of the store, and got into a waiting getaway car, driven by 26-year-old Matthew Chrisman.

A witness gave police a description of the car they were in, and they were later stopped in Madison.

Police said Chrisman stayed in the vehicle, and was taken into custody without incident. However, Stewart jumped out of the vehicle, and tried to run. He was apprehended by K-9, and had to be treated for wounds from a dog bite.

In the back seat of the vehicle, police found the trash bag with the pills inside. The pharmacy employees also later identified Stewart in a lineup as the robber.

Both men were charged with aggravated robbery. Stewart was held on $78,000 bond, while Chrisman was held on $50,000 bond.

It's getting nasty in the nasty.

It's not worth committing the crime full stop, the employees must get traumatised as fuck, the sentence should be high imo. Fuck them trying to get drugs this way for either their own use or use in production. Go get high on end use shit, you don't need to be robbing store people and fucking their lives up over some pills. 14,00 pills is heaps, they deserve to go down for ages, not just for the amount of pills, but for the trauma they have caused to ethers.

Disagree. Big pharma and our government created this problem. They flooded the market with opiates and made Billions doing it. Got a whole generation hooked. Now there crying about it. Boo hoo you reap what you sow.

Which would be a valid point if it was the CEO's or executives or board members of pharmaceutical corporations who were manning the store when it got robbed. Pharmacists can be dicks sometimes, but they're hardly any more responsible for the war on on drugs and current situation with opiates than anyone else.

That said, I disagree with Poledriver's conclusion. Robbery is a shitty thing to do, sure, but if they don't actually harm anyone in the process, I think even 8 - 12 years is a tad excessive. Over a decade of someone's life wasted away in some shithole prison because they made a fucked up choice when they were dope sick? I just don't see what purpose that serves, and if someone is desperate enough to rob a pharmacy, I don't think the difference between that and a more reasonable sentence is going to sway them either way at that stage. Especially somewhere like America with a more or less purely punitive prison system. If anything, the system will spit them back out at the end of the sentence with no prospects and no treatment for their habit, so they're more likely to go right back to getting high and subsiding on crime.

Sorry but the fact the drug war sucks is no excuse
for committing armed robbery. Like crankinit said the pharmacists have nothing to do with the new laws and regulations and about all the legit pain patients who use that pharmacy. Part of the reason allot of pharmacies wont even carry opiates and opioids anymore because of shit like this People may have to drive several counties over to get their medication which is very hard when you have serious health issues. People like this just ruin shit for everyone and feed the already bad stigma opiates have. These scumbags deserve to rot in a cage. What type of pussies need to use a gun to rob unarmed people; if you are going to rob somebody for drugs be a man and rob a big time dealer.
