'Work Programme' Question

Do any of you know how much communication there is between the wonderful 'Work Programme' and the job centre? Obviously they have to inform the JC if you don't stick to the programme so that your benefits can be sanctioned, but what about when you finally get a job?

To clarify, I've been on the WP for nearly a year - always stuck to the rules and never got sanctioned. Anyway, I've actually landed meself a job which I'm starting on Monday. I last signed on last Monday, then informed the WP on Wednesday of my starting date. Also, the next time I would be due to sign on is August Bank holiday Monday, so I'm excused from signing on that date. Therefore, if I 'forget' to tell the JC that I'm starting work, I should be able to get an extra 3 weeks dole, unless the WP automatically inform the JC of my starting date.

Anyone know?
 
I wouldn't fuck about with not telling the JC, because I highly doubt you'd get away with that one. The WP, I assume will have to inform the JC, and there's no reason for them to not give them the correct date. They essentially get their payments from you getting a job, so they'll definitely be telling the JC at some point and i doubt they'll hang around before doing it.

You may still be able to get your dole tho, until your first payday, so that's maybe something to look into. You can't be expected to live on nowt while waiting to get paid from your job
 
Has the dole changed this much then? Time was when the OP would automatically have done what he is suggesting without any fear of recrimination whatsoever. Overpayments below £500 and often a lot lot more were never claimed back. I once got four figures, and the rest, from Housing Benefit who didn't cancel my claim. Two weeks overpayment of dole was considered an absolute norm when going back to work, to tide you over for not being paid in advance by work.

Without the two above replies I would automatically have said go for it Mr OP. But perhaps you're better off listening to people a bit more in touch with the modern world than me.
 
Just spoken to someone on the WP, and he advised that you'd have been best off not mentioning it to the WP, and instead just telling the JC about it .. you may have gotten away with the extra claim weeks with the JC then. But you still might be able to. He said the WP peeps are mainly only interested in finding out where you've gone to jobwise, so they can chase the details to make sure they record it so they get their cash from the JC peeps. It's possible they will contact the JC at any point tho, now they know, so there's always that chance.

I remember when it was like that too SHM, I signed on for ages at about 18, while registered as a part-time student and when I got a job never told them about it for over a year :o

If you're in need of the cash FUBAR, I can't see that there would be huge penalties for claiming until you get your first paycheck. You could always claim it's how you thought these things were supposed to happen. they arent going to pursue you for a few measly quid via the courts I wouldnt have thought, maybe ask you to give it back gradually IF they officially check your start date against your tax claim or summat, but I doubt they'll even do that.
 
I've done this on at least 3 back holidays, got overpaid and nothing was done about it. Every single time I intentionally set out to do this and for away with it. The first time I signed on told them 2 weeks after the bank holiday, had been overpaid 10 days worth of jsa. Advisor told me I'd been overpaid but it was very unlikely they would try to take the money back. On the last occasion I didn't turn up to wp meeting or to the jc and only told them id started work a month later. You might have fucked yourself by telling the wp program though
 
I wouldn't sign anything for the Work Programme providers if they had no hand in you getting your job.
Why should they get taxpayers money for a job you got yourself without their help(if that is the case)
 
^ This, exactly this. But they will chase you for the info anyway. They're a bunch of thieving cunts, supposed to be helping people back into work. Instead they just like to keep the threat of potential sanctions hanging over you at all times just to keep you 'controlled'. There is no tailored program just for you either, unless you count making you turn up for job search while they watch in the corner as 'helpful'

The guy I spoke with earlier said he wouldn't have told the WP anything about your job find.

In the 17 years i have been dealing with them there are barely any similarities to the good ol welfare system of yonder . Tis but a disatant memory . Ask any one under 30 n i doubt they would know what an order book is let alone a counter payment .

Marmalade, I see yer point about maybe I shouldn't have said owt to the WP, but then I would have been expected to attend jobsearches and reviews which obviously is not now possible having started work, so that would have caused yet another set of issues.

Also, maxalfie, you're fuckin dead right there! The WP did absolutely FUCK ALL in helping me get my job, so the cunts shouldn't expect to get their pound of flesh. However, I've not been asked to sign owt by them and my advisor actually told me to wait at least a week before signing off, just in case it didn't work out. So I think I may just chance it, and let you know the outcome in this thread for anyone else in the same situation.

FUBAR was the job one you found by yourself or from the WP?

Edit- I just saw it wasnt from them.

No need to tell either of them, I am sure you will just get signed off when you dont show up
How can they prove what date you were offered the job ?
They are hardly likely to check with your employer if they dont know who he is

From what I have read on anti work programme blogs they advise not signing any paperwork for your Work Programme provider as this then stops them from being allowed to share your data with anyone.
It's all part of the Data Protection Act and you have a say in who you want to have access to your personal data.

Hmm, fair point. Wish I'd known or thought about that when I 'signed on' the work programme. Trouble is, you just tend to do what you're told at the time, then when it's pointed out to you, you think 'why the fuck did I agree to that shit?' Still, too late now - what's done is done'. The WP know I've started work, the JC don't. My gamble is that the WP don't necessarily need to inform the JC when I've started work - it's MY responsibility to do that. But if I did NOT comply with the requirements of the WP, then they have an obligation to inform the JC so that my benefits could be 'sanctioned' (don't they just love that word?). If I have complied with the WP, then surely they have no need to contact the JC?

Also, to 'The Liberal Media' - I like your style mate! Yeh, why bother telling the JC at all? As you say, they'll just sign me off when I don't turn up.

(and if any of you buggers are ever rich enough to buy a Bentley motor, chances are I will have had a hand in building it - so watch out ;) )
