Seven reasons why life is better with booze

I WAS shy, a social wallflower and then I discovered bars.
Following news.com.au contributor Lucy Rocca's article yesterday about the "seven reasons why life is better without booze", I have been forced to come out of the shadows.
It's not that I don't see Lucy's point of view, but I think there are seven - and hey, why stop at seven? - things that make life better with booze.

1. Your health gets better. Rich in vitamins: nutritionists who say alcohol consumption robs the body of much-needed vitamins and minerals are missing the point. According to "consultants" I have met on bar stools, Stolichnaya and other clear spirits made from grains are high in Vitamin V. Add a twist of lime and it's dangerously close to being a health tonic.

2. Your looks improve - and so do everyone else's. Call it beer goggles. Listen to the words of the song There Ain't No Ugly People After 2am. Romance is born over a few drinks and blossoms after many more. Ask your parents, ask any happy couple - did they get together over a cuppa?

3. Easy to maintain your weight. The perfect diet: Bud light and a BLT. Weight's not a problem, just don't eat much. Once while I was living in New York, I managed to lose 10kg prior to my wedding. My regime: one BLT sandwich a day and endless beer - all the food groups. OK, so it was diet beer but I was out having fun, not sitting at home in my small New York flat sifting through my hope chest.

4. You have more time to get stuff done. Actually, it's a case of having less time to fill in. No more endless nights trawling through your old life and plenty of productive time in the pub - cocktail in hand - meeting new contacts and connecting with people in a way you just can't do on the internet.

5. Bartenders, a spiritual relationship. It's still sunny outside, but you are in the deep dark womb of the bar with the bartender silently polishing glasses. You may be talking, you may be in companionable silence. It's almost a holy experience, like with your priest in the confessional only less tortured.

6. You find out who you (and others) really are. Apart from in vino veritas, where everyone's true nature is drawn out by the genie in the bottle, there are other telling signs of pub etiquette that are more useful than character analysis. He always avoids a shout? He's mean, drop him. She flirts with the rest of the bar? Trash her. As much as non-drinking is said to be good for the heart and the liver, it's that other organ, the in-built s--t detector, that is enhanced by alcohol. Trust it with your every decision.

Seven reasons why life is better than booze?

Maybe I'm missing something but I have no idea what you are trying to get at.

Me either, I thought there may have been a post there above his that was possibly removed.

I had a post that I deleted because I misread the title. lol caused much confusuion.

There are more than 7 reasons, I am sure.
But there are lots of reasons why life is worse with booze, as well.
Some good and some bad, as with the health effects.

The thing is, alcohol is numbing. I don't want to live my life numbed. I do enjoy a drink or two sometimes, but I want to live passionately, sensitively, intensely, openly, and aware.... Alcohol doesn't help with these things, especially long term.
Not even passion, intensity and openness.

^ I dunno man I think it is relative, I would say that alcohol has the ability to bring out those last three things you mentioned in a lot of people, too much might be a hinderance but the right amount at the right time I don't think anyone can argue alcohol doesn't make one more passionate and open.

^^ Hopefully not the specified bud light... Eeuuggh I cannot imagine a worse beer, with food or without. The BLT deserves better.

i love alcohol, but it seems like everyday i tell myself im going to quit. you know you have a problem when the hospital staff knows you by name

Ok for relaxing and socializing is about it. I've tried to enjoy alcohol for it's own sake, the way I can a lot of other drugs, but all it really does it make me realize how much better I'd be feeling if I was on opiates, or dissociatives, or amphetamines, or even another GABAergic like GHB.

Life appears better with booze is just like it appears with other substances.

You get high and everything is great, but vastly overdoing it and trying to conjure up half truths about alcohol is quite immature... I must say.

Beer and various other booze has vitamins and minerals. But alcohol causes us to dump water soluble vitamins mainly B1. Booze simply can’t make up for it alone.

Sure small amounts of booze make you lighten up, but being flat out drunk completely destroys who you are, completely destroys who you think you are, and most definitely destroys peoples perceptions of you.

I for one do not get where this thread is going...

Booze creating a lapse of judgement is the sole reason for ugly people getting laid. This is far from improving anyones lives... Having an accidental kid from an ugly chick is definitely not an improvement. If you can even operate your dick.

It is in fact harder to maintain your weight because booze makes you want even unhealthier food than what you would normally partake in... Beer in particular has tons of phytoestrogens, which makes fat accumulate in our mid section, and men develop breast.

You have less time to get more done that not drinking at all. Getting drunk does take up time. Especially if you have a tolerance for alcohol.

Having a spiritual connection with your local bartender may save you some money in the short term, but will definitely make you a fucking drunkard... Leading to becoming an alcoholic... Definitely not an improvement.

Is this a joke?

well said.

booze is in every facet of life in a bad way

in tesco in uk nearly every aisle has bottles of wine at the end normalising it as though it is a food- its a toxic drug
