Antiepileptic drugs and psychedelics.

So...a few months ago i had 2 simple partial seizures,i've done an EEG and it confirmed the hypotesis of epilepsy.My neurologist want to put me on meds,the choiche is between Keppra or Trileptal,from what i know the first is (supposed to be) a calcium channel blocker while te latter a sodium channel blocker.Since both have an inibithory action on the nervous system there's the possibility that they will reduce the effect of a psychedelic substance ?
 
I don't think you want to be tripping at all, psychedelics lower your seizure threshold and whatnot... (Short response, but I'm not experienced with is at all. You should do a google search on psychedelics and seizures, I'm sure there's much to find)

I know that psychedelics lower the seizure threshold,but i tripped few weeks before the first seizure,and i did not have any symptomatic epileptic activity,nor seizures or scintillating scotomas/auras,so maybe while on medications the probability of having a seizure during a trip is lower...i hope.
 
Well it's something you'll have to decide to be worth it or not. At least stay away from NBOMes and it's friends though (and mushrooms? From all the times I've read something on seizures and psychedelics the one that pops up the most is mushrooms. Could be simple coincidence because of popularity, but found it significant enough to point out)
 
Eh...i will stay away fro NBOMEs anyway,the few times i tripped on them the side effects were really worrying,especially the vasoconstriction.However,what i was wondering is if antiepileptic drugs can reduce the effects of psychedelics like antipsychotics or benzodiazepines does,for example.
 
i know a few people that have the same issue and trip a bit, but i think they take more because it isnt as strong for them. i have never heard of them having seizures on psychedelics. however DO NOT skip your dose and take any psychedelics, that has resulted in very bad times for my buddies
 
I've tripped on Lyrica without any problems. I did, however, always have a few clonazepams with me (anti-convulsive benzo, used in the treatment of epilepsy). I know what many think of recommending benzos but if you are really worried try get your hands on a few clonazepams. I wouldn't normally even mention a benzo here, but because of clonazepam's potent anti-convulsive effects I make an exception. It will dull the experience though.
