Anyone live in Nottingham?

Just found out I'm moving to Nottingham in the next couple of months from lovely Devon. I'm not 100% I want to move, I'm not 100% I'll enjoy it, but it's happening.

Does anyone live in Nottingham here or have plenty of experience there?
Whats the drug availability like there - Acid, 2cxs, MD, pills and shrooms mostly?
Am I actually going to get shot?
Is there a free party scene or kind of warehouse parties or is it just club bollocks?
These kind of questions.

I'm expecting a couple of these threads with results day. I imagine these pop up this time every year

I don't remember any threads like this previous years.

Go with an open mind. If you surround yourself with the right people that's the most important thing, the rest just falls into place. I'm sure you will be homesick though and take a while to settle as its a big change and you obviously like your home county. And Devon is indeed lovely. I'm pretty sure if Nottingham was lovely I'd have heard about it by now.

Live in the nicest accomodation you can afford as if you're feeling low and homesick coming home to a depressing slum won't help.

Look... really... don't say jog on. there's plenty of other insults out there: fuck off, piss off, I'll kill you, you queer pussy ass fuck

"Jog on" by itself is particularly hurtful

I'm going to be living slap bang in nottingham uni campus.
It's not the moving or making friends I'm not 100% about, my town is crossable in 10 minutes walking and this is the only place i've ever lived.

Q2&4 are the more important ones tbh

The uni campus itself is a dump, damp, shite old/broken furniture/beds, leaky cold showers. Then you've got all the students who add to the infestation. A lot of the bins hardly get emptied so expect maggots if it's warm.

Nottingham it's self (central Notts/broadmarsh/main square area) can be a good night out, but most of the clubs play absolute cheese, there's a few dub/club nights on, but they are mainly attended by black plastic gangsters who'll rather stab you than let you get served before them (personal experience)..

Stray into St. Anns for drugs, guns and whores. But only if you know the area or are with someone who does. It tends to get sinister otherwise.

Drug wise you can expect to get what you need probably just by asking around the campus.

Chesterfield is probably better for a night out imo.

Used to be a good free party scene, but its died down with the amount of stabbings and robberies happening.

The best thing about Nottingham, is that it's less than an hour away from Sheffield, and Sheffield isn't a shite hole unlike Nottingham.

Sheffield's had continuous new development over the last 25 years (like Leeds and Manchester), it's friendly, loads of specifically earmarked and developed outside green spaces, it's surrounded by the Peak District, galleries, great pubs, decent transport, loadsa decent cinemas, including a fucking awesome arthouse one ... it's just well good, and you're far less likely to get stabbed there or run into Shopper Check.

Oh, and it's got the newly restored Sheffield Tap, which I haven't been to visit yet, but it looks like it's gonna be one of the best pubs for decent beer everer.

Chesterfield was a good night out five or ten years ago. It's dead now. I should know, I live there. :\

Careful Marmz, you're walking on eggshells around my Nottingham based squirrel ninjas.

Unfortunately Nottingham only has a "great clubbing scene" for people who like to spend their nights in Walkabout and Revolution. There are some good independent clubs and pubs but the druggie scene seems reserved for the absolute down-and-outs rather than night outs.

The city itself is fine and the notion that Nottingham is a crime hotspot seems a little bit 2003 frankly. Even the scummy inner city areas aren't too bad if you can avoid being a dick. I'm part of the upper class echelons, with an accent, dress sense and monocle to suit, yet I've survived many a trips into Aspley and The Meadows.

Nottingham's a great uni to go to by the way. Congratulations.

Edit: We also have the UK's biggest church, if that's your thing:

Sorry Raas.

hah!

For my last job I had to visit various different retail stores in Nottingham, and they always had the worst stockloss on my region.

I left that job in 2005 tho, so that info is a bit outdated.

Someone posted a pic of this tour de force in ingenuity from Nottingham a couple of weeks ago, so I guess no one can say it doesn't try hard ... ;p

I think Stealth is meant to be quite good, a fair bit of an md scene there.

If you fancy coming down to nearby Leicester, go to a club called Sophbeck. Should be able to find everything you want there.
