If adopted, the law would be in contravention to the provisions of the international drug control treaties, in particular the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, to which Uruguay is a party.

It's a good thing cannabis is not a narcotic, therefor should not be subject laws regarding narcotics.

Any countries not a part of that? It would be awesome if one country just said screw it and made a tonne of LSD in defiance. Any time a nation suggests legalizing pot the UN threatens them like a parent and they end up doing it under the table like Amsterdam or with really loose med pot laws like California. Once US states collecting taxes on legal pot its all over IMO and laws are going fall like a house of cards worldwide. I don't think the UN would invade a country over it's domestic drug policy. USA also tends to silence these sort of movements/leaders by rigging elections or coups or a bullet.

A holiday in South Sudan is just what I need! I don't see any of those countries going it alone on legalization, but you never know.

They just can't keep their crooked noses out of a country's personal affairs. Fuck the UN anti-narcotics panel. And fuck a 52 year-old treaty. Please just ignore them Uruguay. These people are hypocrites. Tell them their opinion is no longer wanted.
