[MEGA]Community Growing advice, tips, tricks, & experiences Part 5 (2012-2013)

Thanks. I was actually thinking of saving up for a cargo bike to haul water. Something like this:

I don't think it comes with the girl unfortunately though.

Just curious, have you tried norlde yourself before? Is that why you recommend it?

^ you are right about that but it would be cool to use. I live in the countryside so the roads are not busy.

I've been out of action with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea 1 week after a tick bite (don't know if my hands swelling was part of it). I got antibiotics for it so I'll see how that helps but what I wanted to say is I've sorted the water issue simply by hanging up a massive tarp from four trees just before a thunderstorm. Actually as soon as I got back I started getting really ill so thank god I did it in time.

When you say you have tried nordle was that the nordle strain or the CBD enriched nordle?

Thanks for the concern Living.

When you had lyme disease what were your very first symptoms? Did you get nausea, vomiting and diarrhea? Did you make a full recovery? Did you take doxycycline? Ticks really are disgusting insects which revolt me.

I might have to try CBD noodles if you recommend it. I'm sure they're all good strains but it's good to get some feedback.

I'd love to see pic links via PM if that's all right with you.

Guess I can start posting in this thread now. Got my first grow started. I'm pretty overwhelmed by how under prepared I am, and am kind of wishing I would have researched a bit more before I dedicated the little I have in it. But I guess you can only learn a lot by being hands on.

what grow medium are you using/hydro set-up? have you got a room or tent/what are the dimensions? whats your lighting specs?

@artificial emotion - do you have any more details/info on those self watering/wicking pots?

It's always good to be prepared. But, there is only so much you can learn without attempting to do it yourself. If you need any advice or have any set up questions feel free to post them. I will assist you the best I can through the internet.
I'm assuming indoor? If so I can give you examples on different setups depending on if you use a tent, room, etc. I have probably tried every combo before.

I'm growing inside a insulated building next to my house. I'm just using organic potting soil that I got from the local gardening store. Got a basic LED light setup over my sprouts and a basic HID high power sodium 400w light I picked up at Home Depot for later stages. I'm trying to find a cheap ballast and timer before too much time passes.

Ah thanks! I mean... To me it's just a plant and it should grow if you give it some tlc. I'm using a spare building next to my house which is insulated. I feel like I need a cheap photo reflective material from what I have gathered. I'm not looking to get a super high yield or anything. I just want to prove to myself that I can grow this plant which I love. :)

Nice, well it should be a fun experiment. Reflective material is not needed although, if you use something buy a roll of panda paper. If you pm me I can recommend a place to order a cheap ballast. I don't know your price range but, magnetic balasts are cheaper, louder and run hotter than digital balasts. But, you can find a decent digi for not much more than a magnetic. Some digitals are adjustable as well. For example my indoor setup can go from 400 watts to 1250 watts by turning a switch. One thing to keep in mind is pest control. You will most likely experience mites as most indoor grows in the US do. I suggest using pest control as a preventative rather than waiting until you get bugs. Azamax is good stuff but, plants to get "immune" to it over time. Mighty wash is a good product that you don't need to dilute and for a small grow one bottle will last the grow. it is mostly water so it is safe to use when flowering as well. The companies workers take shots of it at trade shows to prove it's harmless. A foliar rinse with any product once every 2-4 weeks will keep the bugs away. Other ideas are concentrated neem products you put in the dirt such as neem cake and various other "Cakes". I use it outside and have no pest issues. I would use the LED until the seedlings are sprouted for 1.5-2 weeks then put it under the HPS light. (I'm assuming the 400w is HPS not metal halide?) Your plants will love the HPS and show much better growth than the led imo. What brand soil did you get?

I am using this so called organic mixture called 'Mother Earth'. It just looks like your generic top-soil/compost. It has these white-ish colored stones that almost feel like pumice stones. I'll send you a pm!

There are detailed instructions for making self watering pots with photos of every stage on the female seeds website. I can PM a link but its so easy to find I would be surprised if you needed me to.

I've been seeing these grow tents here and there on various websites. Almost looks like a clothes hamper with photo reflective material. Any thoughts on these? I'm going to keep my current grow as is, because I've read it isn't good moving plants around much. Might invest in one for next time.

You can move them all you want when they are small enough. Don't stress about that. My plants get moved and shifted alot. Sometimes into different rooms. My outdoor starts inside a small room, then goes to a larger room, then outside in a greenhouse to ease stress for 24 hours then it goes outside for good. So as you can see it doesn't matter.
As for tents... They are good and I have used an 8 ft x 8ft tent before I owned a place so I was sure to not ruin the room. It is good to keep the grow organized and simple. Also it keeps everything very clean and tidy. I would invest in one. I would get a decent size one depending on room size. If you have a 10x10 room I would say get a 6x6 though you can get away with up to an 8x8. If you have a 8x8 room get 5x5 or smaller and so on. I would definitely get a larger tent than you plan on initially using so long as you have the space. Smaller tents have temp problems for some people. Though, I can assist you on cooling if needed. If you get a larger tent it leaves more room for an additional light or experimental grows such as a very large or U shaped SCROG. You may not be interested now. But, i can assure you at some point in time you will. I am not sure what tent you have seen that looks like a hamper. Check growlab, secret jardin, aggromax or any similar.

Is you light hood air cooled?

yeh no worries thanks very much

iv been looking but im wondering whether the water would turn stale from stagnation. have you found this an issue? i know with flood and drain or dwc water pumps and aerators are important. i guess it wouldnt really be an issue so long as the water was changed every couple days.

.^ if you're growing at home and have the facilities to change the water regularly, simply changing it every couple of days will more than suffice. If you are growing outside as a guerilla grow, I would get a small DC pump and run with a solar panel. These small air pumps that pump bubbles through air stones use very little power so you won't need to spend too much on very expensive kit.

If you wanted a really cool setup you could get power from a lead acid battery being trickle charged by the solar panel. I think you may need to use an invertor. I'm not that knowledgable about electrical stuff so you may want to do your own research.

At home if you could get power from an extension lead, ideally you would have a small air pump bubbling in the water reservoir at all times though.

Anyone ran Serious Seeds White Russian outdoors? Was thinking of grabbing a few fem beans of it as it looks like a solid strain that will have the sort of buzz I am into. I was going to do a backyard grow with it but my fence is only about 6 feet high, I don't think it should get any higher than than and I know LST is an option regardless, was just hoping to confirm through others experience that it should stay at 6 feet or less untrained?

Also, I read some mixed reports on whether this stuff is sativa or indica dominant, to me it seems like it really should lean in favour of the indica but I know it has AK47 in it and I have a batch of that right now that is heady as fuck and keeps me awake (I use cannabis as a sleep aid every night, it is not all I use it for but if I was growing just one strain I would want to be pretty sure it would serve this purpose relatively well,) I know technically that a stonier high can be achieved by harvesting later but am also slightly concerned that with 'white strains' the trichomes might not turn amber?

I also have read varying accounts of White Russian's CBD content, one source said 2% and another said .25%. Can anyone confirm which it would be? I am slightly inclined to think it would be the lower figure since it is quite notorious for its very high THC content.

Someone close to me is waiting for a diagnosis on some illnesses that I know CDB is proven to be quite helpful for, if anyone could reccomend any good potency stoney indica's that do well outdoors and don't get too tall but yield decent and contain atleast 1 or 2% CBD that would be great! Unfortunately a lot of sites only list THC content and when I try and look up strains with notable CBD content I only get results for super high CBD strains. The thing is, this person hasn't actually gotten their diagnosis yet, and are not 100% open to the idea of using cannabis for their ailments, I would really like to grow out a strain with a significant but not ridiculously high percentage of CBD that still meets my recreational and sleeping aid needs because it would suck to grow one of those high CBD plants and ultimately have no use for it. Greenhouse White Rhino is one of fewer strains that does list CBD and lists about 1.6% if I recall correctly, which would be adequate I think, but unfortunately I have read a lot of very average grow and smoke reports on this strain and am quite unwilling to make space for it in my garden on that basis. Any help on this matter would be very greatly appreciated!

I should add that Blueberry looks like a pretty much ideal strain in this regard, indica dominant, potent with THC in the range of 15 or 16%, CBD around 1.5% and higher than usual CBN levels too (not sure the medical benefit of that?), the problem is that it seems you need to grow a lot of these out and pick a good phenotype and clone that for best results, I only have space for 2, maaaaaaaybe 3 plants. I was looking at Nirvana Bubblelicious as a potential alternative, any thoughts on that?
