Yeah, I've always spelt it 'pollack'. Is only cos it says 'pollock' on the packaging I had a moment of panic thinking I fail at fish-spelling :(

Had a Mr Kipling banoffee slice for pud. Only cos was in the reduced bit. Not bad really. Bit bloody sweet for my tastes though really.

Nothing in particular, I'm just having a terrible time with my diet again. Being off work and out if a routine fucks me over! Grrrrrrrrrrrrr damn my self-control/hatred!

I've never said fish feel no pain. I kill them with a knock on the head, with a baseball bat, one hit usually does it.

The implementation of a baseball bat changes things a little, as I assumed the poor creatures had to go through suffocation.

MM is a man who respects the food he hunts, which is somewhat consoling. I've met a lot of industrial fishers and they're basically, a bunch of thugs :( and foreign people who have been kicked out of their own countries, desperate to find work in here.

Its not about respect, it's about safety, you don't want fish that size thrashing round on a small deck (with ropes, hooks, gaffs and knives all over the place) on a smalll boat 50-60 miles out to sea, anything could happen ;)

And that's why I haven't eaten fish in 6 years - you just can't trust those who hunt the creatures.
 
First and foremost its about killing the fish as quickly as possible, like any other fish or animal or bird I'd kill to eat.

Its about respect raaas.
 
I don't get this thing about fishing being cruel and livestock farming being fine. Free range farms may be better than factory farms but sometimes the actual differences really are pretty minimal. I think you said you knew the actual farm so that's different really, Raas. But, as Unka Bob pointed out, those animals still get sent off to the slaughterhouse which is hardly a nice way to go. Even in B&W it's pretty frikkin horrific - Le sang des bêtes best watched with a nice steak dinner ;)

I eat meat and fish. I buy the best I can when I can, but but am a pauper so often I end up buying factory farmed/fished stuff cos that's what budget stretches to. Yes I could just not eat meat/fish at all. Or only eat high quality/high welfare meat/fish only far less often. I probably should really. But I don't cos I like meat and I like fish. Really is that simple. I also make sure I'm well aware of how my meat and fish are produced. Don't shy away from how horrendous it is. But so far my fondness for flesh outweighs my disgust at how flesh gets to my plate. Perhaps this makes me an arsehole. But not a hypocrite.

Well, clearly people haven't forgotten it cos it gets brought up every time somebody asks about her and if she's ever likely to return. To be honest, leaving the forum immediately afterwards and never returning kinda guarantees it'll never be forgotten :D

Meh. Diets shmiets. Nowt wrong with eating shite now and then. As long as you don't do it all the time. Or do eat it all the time if you don't mind being a bit tubby. I suspect you would though. But you ain't so have nothing to worry about.

I'm guessing it's about respect for your own safety and the safety of anybody else on the boat. Just happens to also be better for the fish too ;)

In munchings news, just munched two slices of bread and "wholenut" peanut butter. Although I have no idea which bit of the nut isn't used in other peanut butter :?

for god's sake raas are you deliberately misunderstanding me , isn't it obvious from my posts that I care a lot about the fish/animals I eat and their welfare.

Killing a fish quickly is to make sure the fish suffers minimum suffering (to pretend there's no suffering would make me a fucking liar), it's to get the fish dead and bled and onto ice asap to preserve the flesh best, and it's about safety at sea.

The meat you eat suffers just as much if not more in the slaughterhouse, even if free range it's not as free range as a sea fish, it's had a very short life having been bred for one purpose only : to be sold at the most economically viable point in the animal's short life. Just because I do it myself you want to make me out to be some sort of "thug" I think you said.

Go spend a day at the slaughterhouse your local free range farm uses and think about how ludicrous these arguments you're levelling at me are. Let the farm show you how much freedom a free range chicken has and the age of slaughter, many of the fish I catch are welll over 10 years old and have had happy and fulfilling lives =D
