The UK Government is about to pass legislation which will make any behaviour perceived to potentially ‘cause nuisance or annoyance’ a criminal offense. The Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Bill also grants local authorities, police and even private security firms sweeping powers to bar citizens from assembling lawfully in public spaces. Those who refuse orders under the new rules will face arrest, fines and even prison time.

Pretty scary, how things are turning out...

The baby is cute though, really cute. George is a good name too, fit for a king and it's first wave to the public, what a "Wow!" moment.

Do we think it's going to grow up looking like Kate or Wills? What a beautiful baby either way. It's so exciting, so proud to be a Brit at the moment. God Save The Queen and the new Royal Baby.

I bought Private Eye today, not bought it for a few years, but seeing as it's such a momentous occasion i thought I'd shell out on a copy instead of just nicking one I'm supposed to be delivering.

Not allowed to assemble lawfully in public places...?

no, you'll be allowed to assemble lawfully, eg, to cluck and coo outside the Palace when that fucking baby gets wheeled out.

But not unlawfully, eg, to express displeasure about something, or to have a good time.

Its worth pointing out that most people planning a decent sized protest these days will start by consulting the police.

Isn't this law more aimed at dealing with anti-social brats that intimidate thier communities safe in the knowledge that they're not breaking any laws ?

Kinda playing devils advocate here, but i do think its a valid point.
I also think its a bit much to compare the UK to nazi Germany. There are plenty of countries today where the the people behind that private eye headline would get put under house arrest or just disappear, the UK isn't one of them...well not yet

Yawn.

I think it will help clear up pissed teenage knobs, but the laws are becoming more blurry by the second. If this gets passed, you can pretty much get picked up for anything, especially with the anti-terror laws. Any excuse will be enough...

Yawn ?
Well you started this thread. I can't see why though, if you intend to dismiss points of view that differ to your own.
I read your link and IMO its a paranoid rant. Millions have been spent this year enabling the EDL and the anti-fascists to take to the streets.
I don't think these laws threaten our right to protest anymore than the ones that already exist.

So incredibly naive.

Yes i've read that book too. I did say I was playing devil's advocate. I don't have blind faith in the powers that be, but that doesn't mean i'm going to agree with all the paranoids.
This law will pass and the vast majority of us won't even notice.

So technically the police could clear out a pub for no reason if they wanted to...

Yeah but they won't. Why have a load of drunk and angry people on the streets with nothing to do ?
The police are, on the whole, realists.
Ive been at squat parties where the police showed up, had a little look round and then fucked off with out interfering with anyone.
Ive been caught with smoking weed and possesing acid and let go. The police and politicians are different entities. Some of 'em i assume are utter cunts but the ones ive actually met have been ok. Just because they've been given new powers it doesnt mean they'll be in a rush to use em.

police are realists, yes - not sensible per se. its mostly a question of the hassle its likely to cause them personally each time, along with general outside factors, prison numbers etc

the thing about the legal system is, even if you do get targeted by a cunt, you can get helped out somewhere further down the line. ive encountered all in my time - cool older cops, bent older cops, sanctimonious younger ones, power trippy certified psychopath younger ones, brilliant wise women district-magistrates & penis-envy, desperate to prove something women magistrates, who contravene professional advice with their non professional viewpoint - old cunt judges & a sound (and sexy) asian lady desk sergeant who showed concern for the cuffs-too-tight bruises on my wrists & began questioning an older & very uneasy, male arresting officer about it - lazy, corrupt lawyers.. brilliant, riteous barristors etc

the world is filled with cunts, no doubt. but id still take british justice over the rest
im white, afterall

hahaha. excellent.

Natural childbirth: For some unknown reason (fashion?), I had one of these, even though I took recreational drugs. It was the wrong way round, but I was young. A neighbour had told me: "Three spliffs and it will slip out of you like a wet pig." Not true. At all.

glad you found it funny, mailmonkey. totally worth the infraction

(the letter i was expecting and that over which we discussed the minutia of the first class postal-times delineation.. did infact turn up in the end, was just about to thank you for the lowdown via pm. royal mail ftw)
