The Weather Thread ...

bear grylls vs ray mears :

bear swears by black to keep you cool, as in the Beduoin dress head to toe in black robes. I cant remember his argument as to why black was best. :X Mearsy swear by traditional 'common sense' white garb, to reflect he heat away. Got to say logically white seems to make more sense.

It's likes people who say that drinking a steaming hot beveraidge cools you down quicker than an ice cold one :?

the theory goes that the hot drink makes you sweat more, ultimtately having a greater cooling effect. Sounds like theyve got sunstroke to me.

No respite !
Londons 14 day forecast says till 28th July the coolest day will be 28c and the warmest 32c

Weather experts are predicting that the capital could be set to bake in a heatwave for another fortnight as temperatures continue to soar across the capital.

Forecasters claim that the current fine spell could continue until at least the end of next week with temperatures as high as 32c.

Meteo Group forecaster Billy Payne said:

“Wednesday will be sunny with some patchy cloud but still a good deal of blue skies across London.

Top temperatures for London will be around 32c.

“That trend will continue into Thursday although an easterly breeze will mean that temperatures will drop a degree or two below what we have grown used to in recent days.

“On Friday the sunshine will continue

“Looking further ahead the forecast looks likely to stay dray warm and sunny with current charts showing the current band of high pressure likely to stay over London for 10 days or at least two weeks.

The news comes after it emerged that temperatures in the capital were set to top 30c today with Heathrow likely to top the sun charts according to the BBC.

I'm naturally ginger, with Irish heritage - ergo, I am of such a complexion Count Dracula himself would be envious. My friend was in stitches last night at my expense, I walked to the shop, a 15 minute round journey and stayed indoors throughout the rest of the day - but she found it hilarious that those 15 minutes were enough to leave me sun-burnt on both arms, with peeling skin on my nose. Oh, how could I forget, I am allergic to almost everything outdoors.

In conclusion; Fuck you Summer.

Anyway regarding seasons, I was having a chat with a mate a few days ago and he made a very intelligent observation - time absolutely flies when you live in S.E. Asia, and part of the reason (we both agreed) is that down here there are no seasons. It's just constantly around 30*C all year round and about this time of the year it gets a bit cloudy and occasionally you get fucking torrents of rain coming down, but that's it.
I think seasons are really important to give you a sense of time passing. Might be one of the many reasons why Thais are astoundingly lazy, and foreigners who come here for a few months end up getting sucked in and staying for a few years instead.

nothing to do with the hordes of desperate passport-hungry women then

^ lol.
last Saturday here there was an amazing storm. After a couple of hours of heavy rain it fell a hailstorm so heavy that I could have easily filled a bucket with crushed ice (and avoid the supremely annoying task of crushing it myself). It was nice to watch, at least :P

Got to say I'm loving it. Even more because I was dooming about this summer, I had it down as a complete write off just like the last 3 years.

What are we going to do when the cold and the rain comes back? How will we cope? Seems inconceivable and hard to imagine but hey, we have the next couple of weeks like this at least.

I loves it.

Can't find any online news sources, but there are big grass fires in London right now, in two separate places. Over 100 firefighters on the job.

BBC news video ...

London firefighters tackle wildfire in Leytonstone

Aerial shots show London Fire Brigade tackling a grass-fire in east London.

Six fire engines and thirty fire-fighters are attending the blaze at the southern end of Epping Forest in Leytonstone.

And....? Is that news because it's London? We get some beauties on the Beacons. Every year. Hundreds. Stop the presses! :)

Densely populated area n that ... and anyway it's relevant news to the weather thread!

and same for the heathland in the york moors ... it normally cops it during this kind of weather.

lol, stupid cunts,

Others have sunbathed on urban beaches like this one in Nottingham's Old Market Square

Can you imagine what the UNphotogenic side of that square looks like?

Or how shit it would look if not taken at ankle height?

lol @ Nottingham beach

That's a really good idea to keep your pet cool... My cat'd gag on frozen veg but I could make him Whiskas lollies or something...

Aye, thought about giving bunny ice packs wrapped in towels but she's just basking in the sun and looking annoyed at me whenever I go into the garden so fuck her.

edit: And have we always had numerical warnings for the weather? I swear normally they just give the temp and then all of a sudden it's like 'WEATHER WARNING LEVEL 3' like something out of a war film

haha indeed, weather warnings in numbers are silly.

I normally hate the hot weather, but have faired surprisingly well this year. I think it's because I can get away from it (air conditioned office and house that cools very easily). I think the winter lasted so long that it's actually a bit of a novelty to have some heat. I'll get sick of it if it stays this way for a long time though.

For nighttime, I get a pedestal fan and put it right up to an open window, and run it for an hour or so before bed (too loud to sleep with). Blows in cool air to make the bedroom sleepable in, and apparently also keeps insects out (I don't understand that, surely they'd just get sucked into the fan.... but my friend who knows everything said so).
