Well, sometimes they're really funny if they're decent. Lady Thatcher was Bluntsies last one and I thought it was a pretty decent attempt.

It depends how they troll and what the intent is.

How can you tell though? You lot seem to be straight on it. You in particular Marmalade. How on Earth do you know? I know the Farmaz alts are obvious, is it something like that? Just down to the writing style?

Well, the person who thought we were alts is batshit crazy insane, so that's not really a reason. Disagreeing with them appeared to mean that it couldn't be anything other than an alt, it certainly couldn't be their own misconstruding the situation, because that's just a ludicrous suggestion. I usually spot Farmaz posts under a new alt in under 2 digits. It was 9 posts in the last 2 alts he had. No joke. (Shambles can confirm the latter)

Various ways of spotting alts, depends on what kinda of alt and their intent, as I said before. It could be writing style, agenda, who they reply to, why they appear to be replying, what threads, references they make etc etc

TONS of little clues. I've always been good at spotting alts. Been on forums a long, long time. I'm not always right tho.

I find it amazing that as human beings we can tell what person is typing out text just from how their words appear on a screen.

Who was DSP-2300?

i can see why people might have thought you were alts, because there really is a similarity in the style and level of intelligence of your posts. But the content and details of your lives that you have chosen to disclose and share make it apparent that you are not alts after all. Based on that "evidence" for someone to really believe that you are alts would be, as you say, quite insane.
 
time for someone to create an alt and deliberately behave like someone else, in order to cause chaos. >:)
 
academics do read these forums, dunno about posting to blend in and make friends, that's more the sort of thing the police like to do ;)

I liked him a lot. One of his previous alts was OfLittleWorth ... he always used the same type of pictures taken from the same camera. He had a good few little traits actually. His anti-mod stance (poor wording, I meant anti-censorship and supporting fair treatment), he indescriminately treated people the same when he would pull them up on things, he stood very separate from the general banter buddies on a day to day basis ... he was quite cutting, very susinct with it, he liked to show n tell his life.

Great poster in my eyes. Masked a lot of the good things he was doing AFK with a detached, confrontational vaneer here .. occasionall spoke of his personal life and divorce over the course of a few different alts .. if you pick up on that kind of info, it's easy to spot.

I'm really interested in what's really underneath forum personas, so I tend to pay attention to the more extreme ones, or ones who are obviously angsty, or defensive, or aren't keen on showing themselves publicly ... they're normally the most interesting and agreeable on a personal level, ime ...

Sam would be one of those people ..

Sam's intelligence level is way way way above mine. In terms of generic IQ measurement anyhow. I'm average at best. [edit] and that's not being faux humble either.

I can be smart, but I'm not even remotely highly intelligent.
