A 16-year-old boy has been arrested today for grabbing a stranger's baby and throwing it to the pavement while high on a legal drug called Salvia.
The teenager was arrested on suspicion of assault in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, Northumberland this afternoon.
Witnesses say he pulled the baby out of the pram and hurled it to ground after the mother started talking to him because he appeared to be in distress.
Northumbria Police issued an urgent warning after it emerged that not only was the boy under the influence of Salvia but another local teenager had been hospitalised today having smoked a Salvia cigarette.
The boy, a pupil at Ashington High School, is now in a stable condition having collapsed.
Superintendent Mick Paterson said: 'Our advice is, just because it says ‘legal’ on the packet does not mean it is safe. He advised: 'If you are in possession of this substance do not use it"
