why do I trip so visually on AMT?

a friend and I recently tried AMT for the first time at 62mg (taken orally) and went on a trip that was not only fun but also profound and memorable. One of the most notable aspects of the trip was the intense visuals we both experienced. These visuals could easily compare with psilocybin and LSD visuals and at some points were even more lucid than those. Over the course of the trip, I saw:
  1. Patterns reminiscent of tribal designs yet more digital, reminded me heavily of the artwork to animal collective's merriwether post pavillion
  2. Heavy warping and bending of surroundings
  3. Sinister distortion of people's faces (my friend remarked to me that they resembled witches and goblins)
  4. Intricate and evolving CEVs that changed from simple patterns to an aerial view of photorealistic 3D landscapes
  5. Lots of patterning in nature, in particular grass and bushes appeared kaleidescopic
  6. The canopy of several trees seen from below resembling a painted mosaic of several turtles swimming around in a pool
  7. The branches on a group of dead trees in the distance arranging themselves into nonsensical words and phrases (notably the word LASAGNA)
my friend reported his own similar yet unique visuals and we both found the visual side of the trip hugely enjoyable. Not a single trip report I have read for AMT has contained anything near this level of visual activity and I'm curious as to why. The material we ingested was without a doubt AMT, a light brown freebase that smelled noticeably but not overpoweringly of shit and mothballs. Another interesting aspect of the trip was the smoothness of the body load, which manifested itself as a pleasantly rushy all-over tingle and not the dreaded lethargic drunken feeling that others have talked of. Many reports I've seen even at 100mg+ described little or no visuals as well as a crushing body load, so why were ours so prominent and our body load so manageable?

I imagine a lot has to do with personality and 'how you trip.' I've never taken a-MT (no idea why either, it sounds delicious) but from the reports I've read it always struck me as a very visual psychedelic.

have you looked at some trip reports on Erowid? quite a few there mention some heavy visuals, from myself and friends experience it varies quite a bit from person to person, most friends that have tried it find it to be very visual at moderate doses, i personally have to get around 150mg to get anything more than the patterns on a carpet waving a bit. YMMV

Because you're making a judgment from a single experience. If, once every two months, for the next 10 years, you took that same dose you'd probably find a lot of variation in what you think are the qualities of aMT. It's just a single kind of molecule in a bodily system convoluted by countless unknown and practically unknowable factors. You just happened to get a visual trip this time. Psychedelics are not medicines like Tylenol with a definite intended function. They work within receptor systems that seem to be tied into the production of human consciousness and so our experience of them naturally has something of the variability of that consciousness. The experience of any psychedelic is characterized by general tendencies of pharmacological action that vary both within and between individuals and between times, not of met or unmet or defied expectations.

Hmmm. The words are true, and certainly with (say) black market LSD...there is a lot of (perceived) variance from trip to trip. Having said that, for the most part I'd say the psychedelics I take tend to be very consistent....even all of my acid trips. Sure, moods play a role...and I will never forget how I went 7 years thinking 2C-B was lame (dosages up to 36mg) and then (same batch, same scale to weigh a dose) a 24mg BLEW me away hard...since then I've really come to love 2C-B...the point I am making is even when mood, setting, etc vary, some aspects of the trip vary but I know 2C-T-7 always feels like 2C-T-7, its very specific in its MDMA-like emotions, insane visuals, body feeling, etc. 2C-D always feels like 2C-D, hmm they all really are consistent to me and I'm trying to think of a case where I thought (did I grab the wrong vial) but i just can't think of one.

Well like anything, your mileage may vary!

^I certainly agree that the same psychedelic has a consistent "vibration" or body high, though I know from my numerous experiences using the same dose of aMT from the same batches that there have been a few occasions when it has been extremely visual, though most of the time it's not very visual for me at all.

I'd say setting has a lot to do with it too. At clubs I never have visuals apart from a "change" in the world and some wigglyness, but when I'm at home the same compound can be wildly visual. Case in point, last time I took LSD when out I only started to get visuals at T+9.00 (that's when I got home) even though I took a reasonable dose

I don't know about LSD, but with some drugs the visuals are so strong it doesn't matter where you're at. You can't escape them.

For me it's the same with any substance, even things as visual as the NBOMes (LSD is up there too, btw). After a certain point, yeah, but not at dosages I feel comfortable taking in such an environment. For example, at home 600ug of 25c produces a ++/+++ with me, but at the club it never goes further than a ++ visually. Body-wise and mentally it's all the same though. (That is until I started being an idiot and tolerance came in to play. Only the euphoria then, but as a club drug that's a good thing :))

Not sure about my LSD dosage at the time, but was somewhere between 100-150ug with a few mgs of 5-Meo-MiPT added. Was tripping heavily, but no visuals

I've never really had any significant visuals on AMT. I've only seen walls breathing, and had massive time dilation.

I have had visuals on amt, nothing of the complexity of lsd dmt or mushrooms, but a 40mg dose have had strobe lights giving off purple orbs my wallpaper literally spinning i thought a chiney breast was a castle, its certainly psychedelic at them doses, nowadays i prefer 10/20mg off the stuff but 40 i really need to set aside setting and so on , i find even 5/7 mg a nice

I think u will most likely find it more euphoric and less visual but dnt be suprised, it took me a few goes to get to know a-MT fully, but its an impressive pyschdelic :-) u will like it morning im sure :-D
