Question about opiates for you guys!

So, I was wondering about this for a while because it seems that the opinion on this seems to change from person to person: do opiates have a "mental" high for you or just a body high?

For me it's always just been the body high. No doubt I'm usually happier when I'm on opiates but I think that's simply because I feel so much better physically. My thought processes and how I think about things has always remained exactly the same, as opposed to something like weed where there's a definite mental high.

What about you?

every high is a head high. the opiates aren't in your (hypothetical) broken arm making it feel good, it is in your brain stopping it from sending pain signals. sure, I see how people who don't do opiates a lot don't feel any different on the drug. but to those of us who have/had a love affair with opiates they could feel as good as ecstasy, and usually somewhere around weed/alcohol. if you don't get pure bliss out of opiates I would stop taking them completely. no use getting addicted to something when you aren't even getting the positives.

Well I do get bliss, I get the bliss of not feeling like shit all the time. 8)

Unfortunately they're the only drugs that really do it for me. I get too paranoid on weed.

On Opes I get really energetic (when Im not nodding out) I get intense euphoria and analgesia which adds to the euphoria as all the little or big pains i deal with slip away and i am a superman.

People say opes are bad for your soul but i disagree, if you have self control they can make your life so much better or completely ruin it if you aren't careful. I have been addicted to them in the past but for the last year or so have only been taking PST about once a week, so I feel so much more in control of them, and i wouldnt have it any other way. when youre addicted to opiates, for me anyways, I didnt even get high, i just felt normal when on them and sick when off them, so in short, addiction ruins your fun. Be CAREFUL

Opiates bring me to a state of pure bliss, but the mental euphoria is very subtle, so it doesn't feel as different from your everyday thought process as something like weed does at first, but going from a state of withdrawal to a fully opiated state is an immense, rapid change in consciousness, and IME even seems to produce a stronger mental (and physical) high.

It really does though, as terrible as WDs are, there are few things as satisfying as drawling all day and then blowing a half an OP40 and having that wave of comfort destroy all those nasty feelings. Its like going from the worst flu of your life to the (seemingly) healthiest state you've ever experienced. Maybe healthy isn't the word to use but you know what i mean.

For me it's both. Even a moderate dose of opiates will give me (A LOT OF) increased motivation to do the mundane things in life. Without them even the most basic of tasks can be a struggle if I'm having a bad day.

Well I understand that, but that can be said for most drugs that create physical dependencies. I'm talking the drug in it of itself. Assuming you weren't going through W/D but you weren't high, would it change your mental state, as in your consciousness? Or would you just feel really good?

All opiates do is simply live up to the name of "painkiller", that's it. There is no discrimination between body and mind, they permeate your entire being so that any and all pain, physical or mental, is either dampened or eliminated as every negative switch in your existence gets flipped to positive...

Not true, man. It definitley kills pain but it doesn't necessarily make you "positive" b/c back in High school we used to call it "Ope rageing" when someone would take opiates and turn into a complete dick, not always, but like, they would snap at any little thing, kinda like coke or roids, and ive seen it happen to a bunch of people, myself included.

The body high is beautiful, but the mental "I really couldn't give a fuck, nothing matters except how beautiful I feel" is incredible.

Everyone has a different experience depending on many little factors, sure, I was just trying to illustrate opiates' core function.
Guess that was a bad metaphor...

For me its mostly mental. Im on the top of my game when on the shit. Things get done, work gets put in, an i feel great. Oh yeah also the fact that when you go from complete withdraw to completely well. Man in those like 5 secs just waitin for the motherfucker to hit is undescribable.
