I've noticed it happens more with Indica strains. When you start to come down off the high you get quite drowsy. Why does this happen?

Cuz you're killin' brain cells, bro. Less brain cells = drowsiness. There's not enough of 'em after you smoke to do all the basic shit they normally would, so the ones you still have left get overwhelmed and, as a result, everything slows down.
In my experience, it is wise to accept that the cannabis experience comes with a down after it. The only way to get rid of it is to smoke more weed, or to endure the burnout that comes after the drug stimulation. A lot of regular stoners get a bit anxious/sketchy when this starts to happen, and try to get more high as a result, even though their cannabinoid receptors arn't ready for it yet. It is better in the long run to endure the down, because your next hit will be a top notch head trip instead of a smoke that is pleasant but hardly noticeable cognitively to someone who has just recently been, or presently is stoned.
That is a really interesting point & one I consider often. I find the best way to smoke is to rip a couple of good bowls & enjoy the high for a while. When sobered up completely have a few more good bowls etc. Unfortunately I tend to rip a couple of bowls & repeat every 45 minutes until I pass out several hours later. If I smoke say 4 bowls & then stop I end up feeling really "dregged out" & need a sleep within a few hours or I just feel sluggish. A couple of hours sleep & I am right as rain.

well thank you, Lady Codone, for taking the time to think through a "problem" and compose a well-written post that thoroughly debunks an initial sarcastic reply.
