Jebus christmas, it's all 'appening.

The Guardian just posted a video of their interview with the whistleblower, Ed Snowden, who just came forward. What a national fucking treasure. Big lubs to the guy <3

Anyways, interesting stuff all round. Very much looking forward to hearing Hague deny any involvement or knowledge of, tomorrow, lulz ... he was meant to be visiting the states tomorrow apparently but the US cancelled ... 'UK embassy in DC says our tea with foreign secretary William Hague tomorrow is off due to 'Parliamentary business at home' .. hah!

The Guardian coverage is fucking awesome on a minute by minute basis as usual for major news breaks.

Thoughts, opinions, predictions?

it baffles me as to why everyones so surprised. gmails had select word snoopers for a decade at least.. i imagine others do too, but gmail was the one i personally suffered from. i think everyone knows about facebook and what not

unless youve run bookend vpn's, vpn+tor or some such religiously, every single time youve participated in something illegal online and basically been unrealistically careful.. you are in theory vulnerable. perhaps not now, but times and regimes can change

What he said. This shits been going on for ages they have said since 2006 or something like that but even thats bullshit, its been going on much longer, select terms and phrases have been logged for years when it come to things such as the us president, assassination, bomb. fuck me, im probably putting my foot in it just saying this shit 8o

the problem is when they catch things like it just means they have a mountain of utter bullshit to wade through and it makes it more dificult for them to find actual useful stuff being done by bad guys.

also they aren't stupid and can tell the difference between a throwaway comment annd someone who is really up to no good.

I beg to differ and have read of countless times people were arrested over shit they didnt even mean.

This "news" story is neither interesting nor in any way a shock.

That dude gave up his home and his GIRLFRIEND to tell us what we already knew. I cannot fathom why.

just orf out to me Ma's but just quickly .... <3 <3 <3 to PTCH & Ceres

The guy is a fucking LEGEND.

how did you suffer from using gmail?

suffer is a bit of an overstatement, really. i reg'd a gmail account not long after they first began. i had other accounts for communicating/registering sites & kept the gmail strictly for databasing addresses & telephone numbers i didnt want kept in other email addy's i was actively using (thus less secure) simply as a kind of backup database online incase hardware was stolen/damaged etc

the entire time, i only used the email to correspond with one other address, which was a muslim girl in america who similarly had a gmail account solely to talk to me. this was not long after 9/11, we were a bit mad & lefty - sending emails to one another that were vaguely antiestablishment, dumb kid stuff really

went to log in one day to be met with 'your account contained inappropriate material and has been closed' - she got the same her side. i lost fucktons of contact details

of course its not 100%, but im fairly sure specific words alerted them

I know. Imagine giving up your GIRLFRIEND just for something as trivial as the greater good. What a fucking mad man.
No need to be quite so sarcastic, I'm allowed an opinion.

I said I can't fathom it because I can't.

Even for the 'greater good' (what good will be done is up for debate) doesn't family, friends GIRLFRIENDS etc come before being some sort of hero?

wow thats pretty bad yeah.I didn;t know google did that, closing accounts. I wouldnt store anything sensitive on there atall thats for sure.

yeah, it was a bitch because mostve the people whose contact details i had on there were from forums thatd been closed down, including the girl i was talking to at the time. stupidly i had no back up or failsafe place to meet online, thus i lost a lot of useful contacts. had a backup email the girl used to tell me google hit her too, but eventually lost contact with her also after spending a year in a drug filled haze, forgetting my password to the backup email and not being able to remember her multi charactered backup addy. pissed me off cus she was studying pharmacology and a friendly, anarchic chemist is something i was looking forward to have as a contact :\

glad i got my fingers burnt though, as you say - im very careful what i use email for these days. and always have a multifaceted backup for information i need to keep handy

Big lubs to the guy <3

^This.
The guy's brave as fuck for actually doing it, I mean, can you imagine having the power and influence of America against you in full force? Especially because so many nations lick America's pussy.

EDIT: Not overly related, but did anyone read Julian Assange's article relating to Google Glasses?
It's pretty interesting as well, basically he tears apart the new book by Schmidt and Cohen titled "The New Digital Age".

Personally, I find it hard to read conspiracy style articles without thinking it seems a little bit over the top, but with Julian Assange it seems to be much more believable, probably due to the whole WikiLeaks, thing. Still feel I take it with a tiny pinch of salt though. :sus:

Ehm, no. Certainly not. Isn't that kind of the point of being "some sort of hero"? That you don't put yourself or your family etc first

I can't fathom why you would think otherwise.

If he's the sort of guy who has seen something that he believes isn't right & has potential to affect millions upon millions of people to some extent, and the sort of person with the bottle to stand up to shit like that, is he supposed to be like "I really can't stand for this! I need to make this public! Oh wait, shit, I forgot - the bird will be pissed. Ah, never mind then."

Errm no. No certainly not. Not in my book. Maybe yourself but certainly not others that your supposed to care for.

You're twisting what I'm saying.
