Is Ecstasy a hard drug or a soft drug?

Hard drugs, I guess it depends on the definition. Hard drugs in my definition are drugs that takes it's toll on my mental or physical well being, MDMA definitely being one of them.

I consider it somewhere in between. On one hand, very few people have actually died from pure MDMA; those who did mainly died from preventable side effects like dehydration/overheating.

On the other hand, there's a slight potential for abuse that doesn't really exist with shrooms and other psychedelics. MDMA can have a nasty comedown and possible neurotoxicity (as with all amphetamines).

Definitely not something kids/teens should mess with. Let that brain develop fully first :)

Some countries use hard and soft to distinguish levels of perceived harmfulness. Mdma usually falls in the hard drug category. These distinctions are usually totally arbitrary and have little functional relevance.
Check out the report Professor Nutt submitted to the British parliament to see an assessment of the relative harmfulness of the drugs readily available in the UK. (Should be here somewhere on Bluelight). Overall MDMA comes out as one of the least harmful drugs.

Laugh - I think all drugs should be legal. Hard Drug v. Soft Drug is a legal fiction. Something the government made up to classify drugs.

Personally I have two categories of drugs based on personal experience/prejudices: drugs which I have done/would do and drugs that I will never touch.

Ethanol, Nicotine, Mushrooms, LSD, Marijuana, Opioids (sans heroin), Benzos, Cocaine HCL, Rx Amphetamines, MDxx = Good Drugs

Methamphetamines, Heroin, Crack = Drugs which I will never do.

To me, "hardness" is based on the strength and spread of the effects relative to a typical dose so MDMA is definitely hard. Alcohol's a difficult one; it's hard, in my opinion, but its social standing usually drags in into soft status.

I think they classify it by how addictive and dangerous the drug is.

For me soft would be
Cannabis
MDMA
Mushrooms

Hard :
Heroin
Opium
Crack
Coke

You do E a few times a year, and don't abuse it, perhaps it's a soft drug?

Snort up 3g a day like some of the crackheads I've seen on BL, perhaps it's a hard drug? Especially when they start bitching about all sort of side-effects. Seems to me a hard drug is something that will fuck you up or cause addiction.

This post made me laugh a little =D

Congrats neither one of you can understand english. Also, no I haven't gymstud, not that it matters because it has nothing to do with how hard or soft these materials are. Why do you care about the hardness anyway, are you trying to build an ecstasy castle?

Ecstasy castle? Sounds like fun. =D

I once saw a video on BBC about the top 20 most dangerous drugs that are most commonly encountered amongst the general public, with ecstasy rating at #18 far below the obvious ones, such as alcohol, heroin, and crack/cocain etc, as well as below marijuana and LSD.

I would say alcohol is some nasty shite. Ive been to detox 3 times just for alcohol. I did this just so I wouldnt die. I shit you not. Ecstasy got to a point in my life where I got nasty side effects but I was using alot. But I didnt have to go to the fucking hospital to stop taking X.

to gymstud: cannabis didnt cause you harm, unless you consider stabbing yourself to be a sharp object causing you harm (as opposed to you causing yourself harm)

To answer the OP:

1. We don't know what's in ecstasy, cause it always changes! YAY!

anway

2. Even ifvied know what it was, we wouldn't know if it's hard or soft because those aren't measurements, unless you're trying to gauge it's physical hardness...
In that case I would say ecstasy is quite a hard drug, harder than: heroin, cocaine, weed, alcohol, GHB, LSD, mescaline (pure and cactus), shrooms, and more equally hard as: other pills not as hard as: crack or meth, because these are both in super hard crystals!

Anyone know of any drugs harder than crack or meth?

I would say heroin is the hardest drug out there. Crack may have that stereotype but getting off of crack will not give u the physical withdrawal symptoms heroin will give u. That being said I rank clean pure MDMA right up there with marijuana which should be able to be bought at any local convience store. There is no real danger from taking clean MDMA. Infact I'm willing to bet the house more people die from peanuts than they do from pure MDMA every year.

Part of what defines a drug as a soft drug or a hard drug (but there's lots of factors that you got to take into consideration), is how long it takes to cause damage to the body.

For example, it usually takes years before cigarettes damage somebody's health and they get cancer. While binge drinking causes brain damage within months (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...brains-months-Tests-little-day-far-safer.html), just like with cigarettes, it usually takes years before serious health problems, such as cirrhosis, develop.

Cocaine (which is considered a hard drug), can cause health problems a lot sooner than cigarettes and alcohol. It can cause heart attacks and strokes even after using it for a short amount of time (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/a...erfect-heart-attack-drug--use-times-year.html).

Whether or not ecstasy is a hard drug or a soft drug depends on how quickly it takes for ecstasy to give the user health problems.
