A HERO dad charged with “kidnapping” a thug who sold his teenage son drugs has been cleared — after court hearings cost taxpayers £100,000. Rugby coach Cenydd Nickels was arrested after tracking down the dealer who sold his 14-year-old son cannabis. The protective dad set up a sting in a park near his home, and said he was promised cops would be there. But no officers showed and Cenydd and the dealer got into a fight. During the scuffle, Cenydd punched the suspect, bundled him into his car boot and drove him to a local police station. But it was closed so he rang the nearest cop shop on his mobile. Amazingly, when police arrived they arrested HIM — and let the crook go.
Dog warden Mr Nickels was charged with kidnap and assault and dragged through the courts for five months. That was worthy of a Sun Non-Sense Award — our campaign to highlight loony official decisions. At Swansea Crown Court, the CPS suddenly decided to “offer no evidence” without any explanation — and Cenydd, of nearby Ystradgynlais, was acquitted. He posted an emotional Facebook message, saying: “We’ve won the battle but not the war against drugs.”
