Yeah so i am considering retiring .

From what i hear you say .

Well from my long career as a Govt. Statistic.
I've done well & reached a high level but up coming cut's in my Department mean i will be getting sacked soon or at least demoted .

So i've got a few £ stashed away . About £10,000

I'm looking for a place i can go & live on that money for a while .

I don't require any luxury & you all know what i like to do Drugs wise although this ain't a deal breaker .
Sunshine however is & plenty of wildlife .

I speak a bit of Spanish & a bit of Portuguese
Suggestions please.

Oh yeah i must be able to get Diazepam , not alot only say 56 yellows a week . That is really important.

Very far. Cheap as a cheap thing. Best pharmacists in the world. Once you find the right one (it's not hard). One of the friendliest places I've been to. And probably the most corrupt. Seriously Brimz, it's doable, at least for a while.

I never been there but heard Cambodia is a paradise for drugs, everything is cheap and readily available, also very cheap. As you like opiates Laos is probably a good bet too, probably even cheaper than Cambodia.

If I were to leave Europe on that budget I'd take a flight to Bangkok and then hop on a bus to Phnomh Penh and then Vientiane. I think in Laos you can actually buy a visa, like a long stay permanent one.

Life is much cheaper over there but with ten grand it still wouldn't be a permanent retirement unless you plan on dying in the next couple of years, even though living costs are lower you still wouldn't be able to stretch that money forever, in the region I've been to both Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia, I reckon that living frugally I could live there with less than 500 dollars per month, including rent, food and vice expenses.

EDIT: SHM beat me to it|:o

Vientiene has become horribly expensive and unlike the rest of Laos. It's horrible. And you couldn't really live long term in Laos, not like Brimz means. He could in PP. Drugs are available in Laos, but more available in PP. I fucking love Laos, it's my favourite place in the world, but Cambodia better fits Brimz's purpose here.

Thanx Kenny .

I'm looking for one destination for a long stay really. Not a Spade style thing .

Hey Brimz why don't you do a TEFL course? You're a native British right? That's a huge advantage, if I were a native English speaker I would be in Asia teaching english right now. Do the course so you can get a job teaching in English while over there, it doesn't pay much but you'll be able to survive long term.

I don't think you'll be able to live off ten grand for nothing close to five years, unless you build your own shack in the jungle and live off fruit picking/hunting small game. If you have to rent a room, bungalow even if shabby and buy food to eat, you'll inevitably run out of money after a year or two.

Employment in retirement is a bit of an oxymoron but i think i understand where you are going with this .

I have heard very mixed reviews about TEFL courses . Some really bad .

Oh yaeh that's £10,000 after any Flight Costs.

Dunno how you make 10k last five years anywhere in the world. That looks more like European style squatting to me to get past accommodation costs alone.

I can't think of anywhere that's 10k for five years cheap, save up the river in a hut in a Laotian village. And that's not practical for five years.

Jude moved to Cambodia long term, still there. But he runs a bar.

i guess arab countries risk you getting in jail, although they are very nice lush places to live, north west africa espcially, living is good and cheap and the food is incredible.

This is want i want to know wether i'm being realistic cos if not i will have to re asses & consider a different way of getting by. The 10k is a good start though & enough to get settled. I wouldn't have access to it all & i would get someone to regulate the cash for me o prevent me spunking it or any untoward things happening .

bear in mind 10k is also the kind of money you could use to get a deposit on a house and a mortage, in the uk.

A friend of mine does six months in India, six months home (Italy). Home for European summer obviously. Rural hippy India is dirt cheap I believe, though I've never been. He seems to lead a decent life.
