Bloomberg: Medical marijuana a 'hoax'

Mayor Bloomberg called medical marijuana a scam on his WOR radio show on Friday.

In a discussion of efforts to legalize it across the country, Bloomberg said, "There's no medical. This is one of the great hoaxes of all time."

He went on to make another eyebrow raising statement about how legalizing marijuana will cause other problems.

"Drug dealers have families to feed," Bloomberg said. "If they can't sell marijuana, they'll sell something else."

Bloomberg says that "something else" will be worse than pot.

"The push to legalize this is just wrongheaded," Bloomberg added.

An aide later told the NY Post that the mayor is concerned that recreational users would be able to access a system intended only for those with medical needs.

While running for mayor in 2001, Bloomberg admitted to experimenting with pot when he was younger.

He referenced that during Friday's broadcast, saying that he understands that marijuana is much stronger than it was 20 or 30 years ago, but added that he doesn't have any recent reference to its strength.

I think you're mistaken.

As the war on drugs continues, people who are dealers inevitably retire, choose to stop and switch to a legitimate job, go to jail/prison, die, etc. and then new people take their place.

Because of the way things are going now, anyone who wants to be a drug dealer can be a drug dealer. No matter how old/young, male or female, etc. - the best thing is that you don't have to fill out an application, you don't pay taxes, and you get to set your own hours.

There is a possibility that the US could become over-saturated with drug dealers, but we are nowhere near that point.

Before I moved, it was actually quite difficult to source cannabis - let alone any hard drugs. So to sum up, there's more than enough places in the US that you could "set up shop" so to speak, and become renown in no time.

I find it funny that the same people who complain about MMJ not being legit and people abusing the system are also against making MMJ federally legal. Of coarse there will still be people abusing the system but it would be reduced and facilities would be run in a more professional manor.

I'm not a Bloomberg fan, but he means that if they can't profit off of weed, they'll look to profit off of something more dangerous.
