Amen. Intoxication wise, it's everything we want booze to be, only better.

OTOH, the connoisseur/taste aspect of alcoholic beverages are just as important as the intoxication (well, to moderate drinkers anyway). We'd need another natural/botanical product to replace it (preferably anxiolytic like booze). Cannabis comes to mind, but that's practically legal here as it is.

Well, nope. Those drugs are far too addictive and dangerous and addictive to be legal substances, IMHO. If I was going to illegalize alcohol and legalize one currently illegal drug, which drug would I legalize? It would probably be cannabis.
So is Ethanol..... 8)

Well, his thread is about what if alcohol was just suddenly illegalized and replaced with some other substance, but I wouldn't want to replace alcohol with some other super toxic as well as super addictive substance.

LSD? Are you sure?

Alcohol is a fucking disgusting and dangerous drug that's at least as ''hard'' as coke and H when abused. Prohibition never worked and never will. At least two thirds of all problems related to illegal hard drugs are directly caused by their very illegality and high price. And imagine if almost all households had a naloxone emergency kit, in a society that had decriminalized and wisely accepted as inevitable the use of all drugs! Lethal overdoses would become a rarity in no time, further reducing the harm potentially caused by these drugs. It would be obvious to all, in a mature society devoid of religious dumb fucks and red-neck shitheads, that alcohol is a nastier drug to abuse, overall, than opiates. America's fucking retarded war on drugs is much more a BUSINESS and a propaganda tool than a moral concern. If policy makers were a tad wise, they would recognize that the violence and criminality (among other things) related to drugs are only exacerbated by punitive and prohibitionist policies.

Well, sorry for stating the obvious yet again dear BLers.

alcohol has a similar rate of addiction as most hard drugs. alcohol makes many people (including myself) do really dumb shit. alcohol withdrawal can kill you and so can addiction by fucking your body up.

so ya it's just as bad other than it's easier not to OD on alcohol IMO.

opiates in general. why...?
i know they're among the least physically damaging,a side from constipation. i've read about their potential use as anti-anxiety meds across the pond. they're fun; they're functional...

Crack. That way we could say "well crack is legal might as well make some of that other shit legal too."

Lololol .... so true.

GBL, but only for responsible people such as myself... In fact seeing as how were in fantasy land, to get a GBL ticket, you would actually need to ask me personally and I would issue a script with allowable dosages and frequencies of dosing to stay safe.

Unfortunately alcohol is allowed to anyone 19+ (or whatever the age is in your area) and that would mean anyone 19+ could have GBL. If drugs were only allowed for certain responsible people... that would be soooo much nicer. But that's just not how it is :(. G is so easy to OD on, and G-ing out in public is terrible, so I don't think that would be the first thing I'd legalize.

It'd probably be MDMA. Or amphetamines in general. Everything would get done so much better/quicker that way ;P

Weed is already on it's way to being legalized, I'm sure it will be legalized in my lifetime :p

^ alcohol will destroy your ability to feel pleasure when you've destroyed your gaba receptors and are constantly anxious. withdrawal from gaba drugs is an extremely long process.

^ why would i want a drug i don't like to replace alcohol. also marijuana has a correlation to psychosis. and opiates aren't toxic, addictive yes but far less toxic than alcohol and also less toxic than putting smoke in your lungs.

also if all you care about is the safety of society, cheap opiates would drastically reduce the crime rate. less junkies stealing shit.

I would hate to sit in a smokey bar again and watch football. For all it's short comings having a beer is still fucking awesome after a long day at work, sitting in a pub with the boys having a laugh and talking shit. Too many people end up introverted zombies on weed and that would suck the fun out of social events.
