Old-style IPAs tended to be high alcohol and high hop content because they were designed to weather the journey from Britain to India. Newer-style IPAs don't need to be so robust booze-content-wise but have retained the heavy hopping.

Never knew that.

As for the rest of your post. Get to fuck.

Ha ha ha you were down on that like a shot.

Interesting beerformation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/India_Pale_Ale

edit: Including this gem : 'common claims that Hodgson formulated his beer to survive the trip and that other beers would not survive the trip are probably false'. Err whoops, Fucking Wikipedia can't trust it.

I've told you that already. At least once.

Deuchars and the new-school 'IPAs' are usually very nice, but authentic IPA it ain't. Nothing beats White Shield. Nothing.

That's only true because IPAs weren't that strong by the standards of the time (remember that milds were often 6% and above).

There definitely was a school of thought in the late 18th century that heavy-hopping was necessary for exporting to warmer climes though.

Cuppa that Polish tea wot I have been drinking. Am considering giving up on it cos is truly wank. If two teabags stewed to fuck still leave it tasting more like hot, milky, beige water then tea it ain't.

Shortly I will be drinking CWE juice. At least that will taste of something.

I'm drinking home-made ginger tea. Felt a bit queasy and ginger is supposed to be good for nausea. I checked wikipedia and this is a scientific fact rather than some unsubstantiated hocus-pocus. Chopped a nice chunk of ginger into thin slices (about 10 slices) and boiled it in water for 20 minutes. Added a good dollop of honey and the juice of half a lime. It's very spicy! And very tasty, much better than the herbal tea sachets you get.

50 minutes later and it's made fuck all difference :( Still, it was nice.

Cinnamon and Ginger

Strong spices like cinnamon and ginger have a way of calming the digestive track. Mix powdered cinnamon with ginger to warm water to make a tea concoction. This drink will not only be good for your stomach, but it will also taste great (think gingerbread cookies). Add 1/2 a teaspoon of powdered ginger with 1/2 a teaspoon of cinnamon. Ginger also helps with nausea.

Nobody's had a drink for ten days? Cool.

In the absence of better drugs, and better drink, Chilean Merlot, celebrating the other half's half-term.

And very nice it is too.

^ Whoosh that's a good one. Saint-Émilion is a very tasty, as are most Bordeaux. Actually thanks mate I'm probably going to hit the wine cellars for my friends birthday tomorrow after all. Got me in the mood with that. Some real tasty ones here thankfully. Dirt cheap compared to what we pay back home.

Anyway right now I'm drinking cheap local beer. Classy.

^ Well gay :p

(although does sound damnably intriguing)

Actually no 8o

Am feeling a lot better for it too. Also losing weight pretty goshdarn rapidly too. Woked out I was drinking the equivalent of two days' worth of extra calories (~4000) a week in booze alone. And that was on a "good" week when I wasn't drinking much 8o

Add in the drunken junk-food munchiez and that must be an absolute shitload 8(

As such, am drinking coffee. One of those not-actually-but-kinda-vaguely-sorta-ish ground (but still actually instant) ones. Is nae bad for instant, though.

Westons Vintage 8.2% is on spesh @ Morrisons atm for £1.25 a bottle.

Popped in this morning and noticed so I bought a tenners worth for supping in thee garden this afternoon.

4 bottles for a fiver is a total bargain

SHM don't take the piss till you've tried it, it's a lot more manly than it sounds, and the colour is heavenly.

Mango and raspberry cerise-cider tastes like a cross between Um-Bongo, and Five-Alive.

And weighing in at a solid 4% it's not something to be taken lightly.

I like the standard pear ones. Those other fruity ones are rather cloying after a couple of sips
