What "subgenre" are you? V. Grebos, the crusties and the goths

Indie kid through and through. I couldnt decide whether i wanted to be ian mcculloch or robert smith. So i ended up being a kind of hybrid (that was the intention at least)

Backcombed hair was a staple of my teenage years too, MDB. That and looking like Tracey Emin / Patti Smith / a cheapo prostitute. :D

It takes so long though! It was a drag having to spend an hour preparing to go out and get 20 Consulate. To say nothing of running the gauntlet of scallies too. Ah, yoof.

Good to see Angus in the thread.

For some reason, the pics of Nico that many people find 'sad' are the most beautiful. This kind of sums up where I stand. Not that I'd expect somebody to be interested in that, but purely for the sake of all that's gorgeous :

I'm to old for all this shite.

Once you get over 35 you tend not to worry about such petty things . I find that you get sound people in all sub genre's & wankers too.

Never judge on appearance .

I'm wearing Hugo Boss dark blue jeans, a Boggi light blue shirt and a Ralph Lauren gilet on top of that. Socks, but no shoes.

Just got my haircut down in town so I don't have the mad scientist look anymore. Have a few job interviews coming up, I need to look sharp and reliable.

EDIT: Word Brimz, I hate all those sub-genres. I just wear clothes I like and don't see myself as belonging in any particular social tribe.

I like Boss Jeans they fit me really well . I got a pair of Orange Label ones on today they are dark blue as well with a Navy Ralph Lauren T Shirt :sus: What a coincidence !

i was wearing a Carhart Hoody when i was outside

I didnt backcomb allthough everyone thought i did. I just grew my hair very long and scrunched it up to fuck to achieve a william and jim reid,of jesus and mary chain fame,( im sure you already knew that) look. It got to the stage where the scrunchy spikes never flattened even after washing my hair. The teachers, headmaster, parents, police, practically all adults hated it, the girls quite liked it though.

Fortunately i didnt have to worry too much about scallies in my late teens. You can be weird in a small rural town that you grew up in without constant myther especially if you had some well respected people as your friends. But as The Jam sang "You cant be weird in a strange town". So true. People dont know or care about your 'history' and you can attract the derision of scallies unless you have sky high self confidence, and at least some form of self defence skills. It would also help to bhe a fuckin hard intimidating cunt when required too. On speed i can just stare these cunts down until they get embarrased and uncomfortable, and feel like the idiots they are. I love doing this to cocky teens especially.

Theres loads of things i should be taking up whilst i have time and money; pilates, swimming lessons, self defence. Im sure they would all boost my confidence significantly. Not that i ever look for trouble. I do everyuthing to try to avoid it. Sometimes the 'turn the other cheek' approach can leave your self esteem in tatters, I am learning better coping mechanisms for all this ignorant crap though. These ignorant cunts dont know me, they are looking through their own hate filled prejudices and srereo-types. I dunno if they think i have a piss easy life, eith loads of opportunities. This has not been the case.

Im glad i m not asian though, the abuse ive received has been lkacking real anger and hatred, not like the abuse ive heard people shouting out of cars at asians walking along the pavement, just minding their own business,

Racism and conformity and sheep mentality is so prevalent here. I might be better off in a more tolerant city like Amsterdam, Bristol or Brighton. We'll see onve i ghet retrained for my intended new career as a drugs worker, Its the first time ive known for sure what i want to do, and have a feelingh id make a pretty decent job of it.......

I have to be clean myselkf first, so i dunno if im gonna be too late to apply for a bursary and more specialised training at Salfor uni. I'll ask my one to one worker tomoz, I can handle class rooms and group discussions, but no where near ready for one to one counselling/advice.

I wear baseball hats in spring and summer and tight knit hats in fall and winter.

Brimz - I agree that subcultures (in the most aggressively tribal sense at least) are a youth thing and very superficial, hence my somewhat semi-eclectic choice of images in this thread.

Obviously they're mostly painfully-skinny white folk, but that's just how I 'roll' aesthetically.

I'm a sucker for the bleaker side of romanticism (yeah, even in my thirties - how quaint), and I also just think Nico was very pretty.

Hold the fuck up. Aye, by all means wear whatever you like n shit... but a line needs to be drawn somewhere.

turtleneck sweaters

I'm not totally sure where that line is but I am 100% certain that pontifex just crossed it.

I'll make this more interesting by asking people what they're wearing right now...

A grey checked shirt, sunglasses & a pair of purple boxers haha.

turtleneck sweaters? =D

I dunno why but I always think of David Hockney when I think of turtleneck sweaters, google image couldn't find me an image of him wearing one though.

I'm wearing some slim (not skinny, at my age?) cut jeans, a green and bllack horizontal breton striped T-shirt, a cotton sort ofvertical sky blue striped shirt open over the top.(Jasper Conran, my son got it me today for my birthday from the charity shop down the road), and my old favourite trainers, the brown and gold Adidas...and a flowery bucket hat, and me sunglasses...

Off out for a curry in a bit :)

Weird thread...
I used to be a grunge-esque old-school "skater" type (now skaters wear skinny jeans, tight t-shirts, and probably a touch of foundation). I'd like to think I have my own style that combines the Northern Italian chav (heavy rings and lots of 'em, studded belts, t shirts with guns and graffiti on them, tattoos, heavy boots) with the metrosexual prick; long hair, leather trench-coat, turtleneck sweaters and the like, tight jeans, etc...
In short, I look like a wop and no mistake, and don't quite fit in anywhere.
Obviously since living in Thailand I just wear plain-coloured wife-beaters (Gibberings lurkers will see the irony) and jeans or shorts, or the standard shirt-and-tie nonsense to work.

I'll make this more interesting by asking people what they're wearing right now...
Me: wife-beater and socks. Yep, something important *is* missing.

Going to get duly shitfaced to make sure I waste my day off by groaning in bed with a hangover.

I'm getting a brilliant image. Although you may be underselling yourself just a tiiiny bit ;)

I have no idea what my style is, but I'm currently wearing a long tank top with Slash on the front, shorts with tights underneath, and converse. Although hearing about people lying around in their boxers is giving me a few ideas %)

Denim shorts or skirts with black tights or leggings underneath is such a hot look. Combined with uggs too : drool. Especially when you can see the stocking band at the top. (etiz and ethyl are working as truth drugs now, maybe id better stop typing, incase i say something i really regret later.

Im so glad this look is not going out of fashion yet, and has been 'in' for several years. The look has now spread to fat middle aged women and junior school kids but the fittest sexiest students in Manchester are still rocking that look too.

I dont know if its any subculture, maybe just a student look, but its just a very sexy look IMO.
