Sativas of Old vs. Modern Hybrids

I've probably met you...if we took lb's of weed to Chicago (from east across the lake) we could easily double our $$$ selling oz's. - compared to selling to friends in hometown
Shit, in Chicago we could sell half an lb keep the other half & buy partiy favors for the next 2 and a half days!

The Panama red was my fave' closest bud that resembled a hashish high

Panama Red sounds fantastic :) Are there any breeders selling similar genetics these days?

A Spanish breeding collective has a couple of Panama relics. Couldn't say how they stack up against the old school I think they have been selected for shorter flowering so they can finish in Spain. Maybe if you grew them in the tropics you would be able to replicate it.

I just read some smoke reports from that malawi you have it sounds brutal.

I wish...I have tried some dispensary versions - not even close The S. American sativas were all very sweet
smelling/smoking, climate. curing and soil are the main factors I swear I had Panama red's that tasted like semi-sweet chocolate when rolled.

Yeah squid.. during the 70s I knew 3 guys in a 15 mile radius that always had 10 lb bales of some great S. American sativas Lb's were so inexpensive, if you had just one fronted you could always pay cash thereafter.
Then there were the kilo bricks of red Moroccan hash...

Ace Seeds do a panama which is a hybrid of three sativas from panama. It gets great reviews but I haven't tried it myself. Apparently it has a surprisingly short flowering time and is great for growing indoors. I'd love to grow it.

That's how I got my 'wholesale' business started, F & W. My 28 yr old connect (I was 16) fronted me my 1st lb of Michoacán & I turned it around in less than a week. I stepped-up to Acapulco Gold ($30 more for a lb) & I couldn't re-up fast enough.
I gotta be honest with ya...the Mexican in the late 60s/early 70s was not the 'schwag' that is associated with Mexican weed nowadays. This stuff was a laugh & a 1/2!! Plus the Jamaican, Thai-Sticks, & the Colombian that was quickly gaining popularity in the 1980s were all exceptional smoke. Inexpensive too. Really miss those days!!
The pals I have out West who are gardeners extraordinaire still grow some mind-numbing product...& my tolerance has become almost n00bish. I'm by no means complaining...& it is sort of a nice surprise...but a little bit does go a very long way with me now. I can toke 1/2 a joint & hit the 'senior-citizen discounts' at all the restaurants...just stuffing my noggin with all sorts from the menu.

One of my (older) friends always had bales of the Michoacan...it was anything but schwag...100 % pure sativa w/ very aromatic
red, orange trichomes
A "lid" for all my friends was a giant hand full (35-40 grams) stuffed into a flip-over licked sandwich baggie for a sawbuck and a half,
It probably doubled in price within 15 years (and was a weighed 28 grams) while the California hybrids were approaching the triple digits...likewise with the excellent S. American bud

Eh even though its a hybrid I might try it out. Ace is pretty great.

And justsayknow I tried to respond but your PMs are full. That breeder you sent me is freaking ridiculous dude they have some crazy genetics.

I hear ya on that...I used to love the Michoacán. Very energetic weed!! We never used scales 40 yrs ago. 3-finger lids = $15 & 4-finger lids = $20. A 'nickel bag' was the amount of weed in the corner of the bag fitting perfectly in a shotglass...& yes indeed!! The ONLY bags we ever used were the Glad sandwich bags with the flap that was licked like an envelope & they stayed closed.
Yeah, we're definitely on the same page!!=D

Nothing will ever come even close to the (high humidity cured) taste of the original Panama Red...
but thats a whole new thread.
Hope the current seeds are close to the original high, you'll be in for a real treat - Let us know!

Very energetic weed!!
Great discription...I've never understood how high THC sativa = anxiety/paranoia Even the relatively new smokers would be lost in their own world for a couple hours, but they always had a smile on their face the whole time.

Then they always wanted "more" the next day...

I would be careful with people selling seeds that are supposed old school strains, alot of BS out there. Alot of old strains are extinct too. I wish more was being done to preserve old landrace genetics. Most weed today is descended from only a handful of strains, there isnt that much genetic diversity. If this was dog breeding and not weed the dog's would all be retarded.

As squid stated, there was good shit to be had in the 70's and 80's. I am not in a state where I can got to a dispensary and pick and choose what I want.
I did have some white widow last year which was awesome.

In 1984, I went to Amsterdam. Smoked some thai weed and had my first and only pot "blackout". There were some great growers back in the day.

Now I am older and Sativas make me a little anxious. Once in a while, somebody has an Indica and i prefer it for its mellow and relaxing qualities.

As far as laughing my ass off now compared to "then", it is the same. If I have good company, it happens more frequently. To me, it is more a matter of environment as well as having some decent weed.

I have no doubt that some of the good medicinal strains have consistently have a higher THC level than back in the day thanks to legal growers being able to spend more time on quality rather than quantity.

When will the US pull its head out of its ass and realize that grass is safer than alcohol???

LOL!! Now that's a fact!! All I'd initially hear = "Oh man, this weed is strong!! I'm getting very nervous, like everyone in the universe knows I'm stoned!! Can I buy more of this tomorrow? Would you put a lid aside for me, please?":\
Never failed...they'd get the sativa high & would always want more after getting used to it.%)

You hit the nail on the head, Cadamec!! Alcohol & tobacco kill hundreds of thousands of people yearly. Weed exclusively? 0!

Plus look at the difference in attitudes between a stoned person & a drunk person. The drunk will get behind the wheel & say, "Watch me take this corner at 90!!"...whereas the stoned dude would be, "Whoa man!! Be extra careful around this hairpin turn!!":\
