Backyard Vegetable Gardening & Livestock Raising & Sustainable Living

we have gotten so much rain over the past few days that my garden is taking a beating. holes in all the leaves of everything and it looks like shit. i know it will grow back, and the rain is good, but i'm OCD as fuck about my garden, and i need some fucking sunshine.

^CS, what is your avatar?
Is it a face of someone bended over.
Maybe it looks liek she has a penis in her mouth....idk. Im not trying to fuck with you about your avatar if its something meaningful to you,:|:\:D

cow udders.

not meaningful at all.

i used to post on this other board under the name cownipples and it was saved on my computer, and i just used it when i registered here because i'm lazy as fuck.

Cow udders!!!!!!!$%&#
i know u are into movies, so here is a excerpt from the movie Kingpins w/ woody harrelson & dennis "the menace" quiad
Roy: Hey, I hope you don't mind, I got up a little early, so I took the liberty of milking your cow for you. Yeah, it took a little while to get her warmed up, she sure is a stubborn one. Then, POW, all at once.

[Takes a drink from the bucket]

Mr. Boorg: We don't have a cow. We have a bull

does anyone know what if anything you are required to "do" to tomatoe plants? Mine arent fruiting yet, but are exploding with growth as I have taken to feeding them every 7 days with MG.
Oh yea'
I heard somewhere that you can make Jalepenoes hotter while they are still on the plant by doing a "trick" to them. Anyone know of this?

If you feed the toms too much at this stage you'll get them put all their energy into making foliage and not fruit. Really up the feed when the fruit has 'set', i.e tiny tomatoes forming where the flowers were.

Remove side shoots where they shoot between the stem and lateral branches. Once four or five bunches of toms have set, cut the top off the plant so it stops vertical growth and puts all its energy into developing the fruit.

If you stress the peppers in some way, say witholding water till the plant wilts, it makes the peppers hotter.

Ended up finding some nice little advanced Thyme last friday and got them in. The were at a little Seventh Day Adventist stall out the front of an old garage and were only two bucks each. I have a couple of big bags of a good potting mix but can never help myself and added some goodies, I'll list them.

Wetting agent granules
Water Crystals
Controlled release pelletized fert
Trace Elements (because the fert I have is basically just N, P and K)

Far from organic, but I've been making my own mixes for more than ten years and this stuff is the gear. Usually I'd add Peat Moss too, but don't have any at the moment. I gave them a drink with a fish and kelp liquid fert to settle them in and will probably continue every couple of weeks with that :)

lol the best way to grow plants is to replicate the conditions they favour in the wild. Thyme is a mediterranean plant that grows in sandy, nutrient poor, free draining, dry conditions - pretty much the opposite of what your providing :) I'd save your expensive products for 'greedy' crops.

source?..Im new. thx. Ill check it out on google. Lurv to tweak shit

Yep just google stressing chilli plants.

I put in about 60 row feet of potatoes. A mix of russets, reds and fingerlings.

I put up 45 feet of pea fence and I did it this year before the peas needed to climb!

The weeds are growing good fml. It is nice during the day but too cool at night to get my maters, peppers, squash, melons and beans in. Come on warm weather.

How do you keep cats from shitting in your garden? I've been using moth balls but they end up dissolving/sublimating pretty quickly and plus I don't like the idea of using moth balls near vegetables.

do you eat eggs? save the shells and let them dry. crush them, and sprinkle a layer onto the garden earth. the cats don't like the feeling of the sharp egg shells and stay off. they compose into your earth enriching it.

^Ima try that egg trick. I've tried three different kinds of store bought cat repellent and a few different kinds of pungent aromatic oils with no joy. I've tried putting the shit on a different part of the property. Even picking the cat up while its shitting and carrying it to some where it is allowed to shit. (it just continued shitting while i was carrying it) I am considering extreme measures

Unfortunately no, I can't stand eggs.
But I may give them another try just so that I can have the shells.

I wonder if wood chips or something would work, this is only a problem with my squash.

Motion activated sprinkler for cats. I need to get one too. I'm tired of throwing cat crap out of my garden. You don't want to leave it there. It spreads something I can't remember at the moment.

Hahahaha, my senior project was essentially a motion activated sprinkler. That's actually a good idea too, thanks.
I normally scoop it out when I'm watering since it smells gross, and I think its parasites that they spread (maybe).

If you add a camera to the system and only garden wearing a white shirt, that feed (cats and wet tshirt, followed by sadpanda retreat yoga pants) will go viral so hard gangam style will look obscure and underground.

just sayin'

Apparently they will still return after being sprayed with water but add a loud explosion and confetti and they are less likely to return. Make your video shorter than 12 minutes though.

so, one of my mint plants (which is in a pot), has ants that have decided to call it their home.

the mint is still doing really well, so a couple of questions....

- will ants even fuck my mint up?
- if so, is there any sort of organic solution i can use to get rid of them?

i could probably google this stuff, but i like getting opinions from awful drug addicts m0ar betterer.

How big is the pot? You could just soak the pot in a bucket of water to kill the nest.

Pots dry out pretty quick, and ants tend not nests where it's moist so maybe try keeping it more watered? Or keeping the pot in a saucer of water? The mint will handle it, it grows like mad here.

we've had a ton of rain lately. i heard that cornmeal will do the trick. apparently they like to eat it, but can't digest it, and they die a horrible miserable death. i'm gonna torcher some fucking ants tonight.
