A three-day-old baby was thrown on a bonfire and burned to death in an horrific ritual because a cult leader had decided she was the antichrist and that the end of the world was near.

Police in Chile have arrested four people accused of taking part in the ritual in which the baby was placed on a board with her mouth taped before being thrown into the flames.

The baby was taken to a hill in the town of Colliguay near the Chilean port of Valparaiso on Nov. 21 where the ritual took place.

The baby's mother, 25-year-old Natalia Guerra, had allegedly approved the sacrifice.
Miguel Ampuero, of the Police investigative Unit, Chile's equivalent of the FBI, said: 'The baby was naked.

'They strapped tape around her mouth to keep her from screaming. Then they placed her on a board.
'After calling on the spirits they threw her on the bonfire alive.'

Authorities said the 12-member sect was formed in 2005 and was led by Ramon Gustavo Castillo Gaete, 36, who remains at large.

'Everyone in this sect was a professional,' Ampuero said. 'We have someone who was a veterinarian and who worked as a flight attendant, we have a filmmaker, a draftsman. Everyone has a university degree.'

Police said Castillo Gaete, the ringleader, was last seen traveling to Peru to buy ayahuasca, a hallucinogenic brew plant that he used to control the members of the rite.

From a Peruvian news source:

According to authorities, participants in the "healing ritual" acted under the hallucinogenic effects of ayahuasca and the influence of Castillo Gaete, who instigated the human sacrifice.

The investigation revealed that Castillo Gaete is the biological father of the child killed, because he had "sexual supremacy" over the five women of the cult.

Natalia Guerra said that "the whole community knew that my son had to be killed after birth, and we had to obey the star of light because he is God."

All these ayahusca cults seem to exist only to take money from rich people. You can have just as an authentic "spiritual" experience brewing your own and drinking at home as you can in the amazon. I have yet to see any group operating in South America that is more interested in your spirtual development than they are in your wallet. Its like going to to see voodoo rituals in Haiti, the people of that impovrished nation are glad to cut off some chickens heads for the rich westerners, its no longer an authentic religion that they believe in though. There is a difference.

^Animal sacrifice is essential to Santeria. As in any religion, some of us are charlatans, but many are true believers.

I hope that these kinds of events dont start putting a bad label on ayahausca and dmt :(

Thats seriously so fucked up though I cant believe it... /i dont wanna live on this planet anymore

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-22335634 this is as bad but at least this one has been stopped now

Local leaders in northern Ghana have announced the abolition of the ritual killing of babies born with physical disabilities, who were believed to have been possessed by evil spirits.

"Spirit children" were thought to have been a sign of impending misfortune and given a poisonous drink to kill them.

One campaigner told the BBC that improved healthcare and education meant such beliefs were becoming less common.

Activist Raymond Ayine welcomed the ban, which covers seven towns.

But he said he could not guarantee that the practice had been eradicated from the whole country.

The BBC's Vera Kwakofi says the Kasena-Nankana region, where the ban has been announced, is the part of Ghana where such beliefs are most widespread.

Sometimes, babies born at the same time as a family misfortune were also accused of being "spirit children" and killed.

The "concoction men" who used to give the children the poisonous drink have been given new roles; they will now work with disabled children to promote their rights.

'Barbaric practice'

Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas told the BBC's Focus on Africa programme that he took a plastic doll to a soothsayer, saying it was a child with eating problems and physical disabilities.

"He consulted the oracles, jumped up and down and after this said that the oracles confirmed that the child was an evil child and that the child needed to be killed immediately, and that the child had already killed two members of my family," he said.

Local chief Naba Henry Abawine Amenga-Etigo said that anyone caught trying to harm children from now on would be handed over to the police.

Mr Ayine, from the campaign group Afrikids, said he was "saddened that in today's era, a child could lose its life because of such a barbaric practice".

He noted that in rural areas where such beliefs are more common, women often give birth without ever seeing a midwife, let alone having a pre-natal scan. As a result, childbirth leads to complications more often than elsewhere, he said.

He also said that even before the official ban, there had been no recorded case of the killing of "spirit children" in the area for the past three years.

He put this down to awareness campaigns, as well as improved access to education that meant more people understood that physical disabilities had a medical explanation.

In other parts of northern Ghana, elderly women accused of being witches are sometimes forced to leave their homes and live in "witch camps".

Until today, those harming children were some of the most respected members of his tribe - the witchdoctors.
They were his best friends, and he would drink with them and party with them.
But, because of the ruling of a government official (who he probably doesn't respect at all), he has now changed his viewpoint 180 degrees. :|

Africa? Are you joking? Why Africa? There are far more remote & uncivilised places in the world than just Africa man! I would've thought that some of the jungle & mountain area's of South America are amongst the most remote on earth.

Doesn't sound like this lot were wildmen, never having had contact with civilisation, though, does it? Sounds like some weak minded people beng led by one sick fucker... Hardly rocket science & seemingly nothing to do with the area or it's remoteness. Crazy people know no boundaries of law or land!

Africa is just as fucked, some of the traditions and witchcraft that is praticed is horrific, like killing albino children so that there body parts can be used as medicine to cure themselves (or so they believe). Raping newborns as they think it will rid them of their HIV etc, they world is a sick place.

Sorry, but this doesn't make sense.
If you live OUTSIDE of Africa, you might know that sick shit is not exclusive to Africa, but living in Africa would not teach you that.

Also, I (hope and) don't think that Mendo was saying Africa was a sick place, but just the world of the people who Mendo described.
