EDIT>>>>florentine! and benedict!

The most sensible advice your ever given me =D

Just feels like sacrilege, fucking with 2 classic recipes so i can be greedy, but hey ho MrM said it was ok so it must be 8)

I have cooked nothing today :) - Partner made breakfast of omelette (with last nights chili on top) toast and fresh coffee. Then we've polished of an Indian Takeaway/couple of cans when watching the match.

Pretty lazy day :) - perfect.

In keeping with the thread title... just cooked another pizza. Decent one - "Truly Irresistable" hams 'n' mushrooms 'n' stuffs. Problem is I bought it two days ago on the Use By date. Not a problem... I thought. Smelled weird as it was cooking - frankly, off - and ended up burning it cos the smell of offness overpowered the smell of cookedness. Am not usually squamish about stuff a bit past its prime - half the food I buy is out of date by the time it's eaten - but it really does stink. Am thinking probably the mushrooms but smells more like rancid milk. Kinda want to chuck it - especially as it's burnt anyway - but hate wasting food. Even food that's been acquired relatively cheaply. Might have a small sample, suck it and see... but don't fancy food poisoning via the medium of shit pizza :\

Chuck it out - not worth a day of being ill! That or at least scrape the topping off and just eat the base.

It got as far as the tip of me tongue. Yikes that was off! 8(

Pretty sure it was actually the ham that was the problem as that was the bit that touched tonguetip. Body rejected it instantly before it even got inside. Bodies <3

Ah well. Pisser. Hopefully the rest of that days Use By bargains are less fragile :\

Attempting beef burrito, spicy wedges 'n' onion rings. Smells okay. But anything would after that pizza. Flat fukkin reeks :|

I haz steak %)

But no idea what to do with it so looking for tips from experienced users. Is rump steak wot I acquired cheap t'other day (is actually a few days out of date now but was one of those new-fangled vacuum packed jobbies and still smells fine - blood has leaked a bit but dunno that that should be much of a problem). I'd like to know how to cook it. Is only the second or third time I've ever had actual steak and would rather it didn't come out like boot leather if possible. What to do? Grill it? Fry it? How long for? Answers onna postcard, please. Or, for preference, posted here sometime in the near future.

I didn't read your previous post, steak seems to be a thing where personal preference varies quite wildly. If it's not a really thick cut of steak i'd personally get a pan REALLY hot and fry/griddle pan it for no more than about 2.5 mins each side. I like steak pretty rare, a little bit of blood isn't going to kill you. Simply seasoned works very well or cooking it in a bit of garlic butter is also good for a really simple meal.

Not excessively rare, not boot leather was what I was hoping for really. Should've specified. Is quite thick. Rare always makes me think it must be cold inside and don't fancy cold. Only time I've ever cooked steak it was well overdone by the time it was browned on the outside. Probably didn't have the pan hot enough. Am assuming adding a minute or so each side would result in summat more medium stylee?

Fry it (easier to clean up, as if you grill it it may spray fat about).

I'm not a steak eater but I would go with pat it dry once you remove from packet, rub a bit of olive oil on it then some salt n pepper and then fry in a very hot pan (not much oil) rump steaks are normally a bit thick so may take a few minutes per side (depending on how you like it, how thick it is)

Once you have put the steak in the pan (reduce the heat a bit) then just leave it alone, dont shake it about or fanny about with it until your ready to turn it over. Turn it over and leave again - remove it and leave covered in a bit of tinfoil (or with a plate over it) for a few minutes before eating.

If you don'y fancy eating in one go, slice it in half to give you two thin fillets. Fry it as above but reduce the times - would go great with mushrooms, onions in a big bread bun etc.

Slice in half, cut into cubes quick fry and then add some chickpeas, tomatoes, garlic onions -and make a stew type meal?

A rare steak shouldn't really be cold on the inside, I know a lot of people are put off by the thought of it though! Yeah i'd probably go for around 4 minutes either side for a medium steak. Getting the pan nice and hot is the key, nice colour on the outside but still juicy on the inside.

Edit: If you can wait it's worth letting the steak warm up to around room temperature before cooking it. Helps keep it a bit more tender.

Has been sat on the side ferra while now so should've warmed up. Took it out fridge to sniff it and check it was still edible before posting in here. Actually only just occurred to me that Google can also be my friend. EADD dependency? Moi? Nonononononono :o

Thanks for the tips, fella <3
